Parenthood

I had tears in my eyes during the scene with Max and his parents in the car, but I hated the way they kept dismissing his statements. He kept asking, "Why do they hate me?" and they kept saying, "They don't hate you!" Well, apparently they do -- I mean one of those other kids peed in his canteen. Why can't his parents just say something like, "It must be a terrible feeling to have, feeling like they hate you. We're so sorry. Yes, they do act like they hate you, but they are just really stupid and unthinking." or something along those lines. Denying that the other kids hate/dislike him would be crazy-making in my family.

Adam was the CEO of a Nike-like shoe company before he was displaced when the company was bought out by another company. He purchased that house when he had a lot more disposable income.

IME with Aspergers kids (not a parent of one) the behavior is very accurate. However, it's unrealistic that Max can articulate his feelings so well. Typically, they're either unaware of what's going on or don't want to talk about it. There's also not enough ability to focus on a conversation like that.

Parent of 12-y-o with Asperger's here. Totally realistic, have had just about the same conversation many many times. There are times when he seems to come so clearly into focus with his feelings and can articulate them incredibly well. They are getting more and more frequent. I'm finding that instead of the meltdowns he once had, he will become frustrated but be able to articulate why much more clearly. This is after 8+ years of intense intervention.

Love the show!

So nice to hear! I think the Max scenes seem really authentic. It's just a peek into your world. Sounds like you're all doing great.

No, you are not alone. Love the show and almost all the characters. Sarah drives me crazy, but I agree about Amber. I can't bear her!

He wasn't CEO. He was the Founder and CEO's right hand man.

I know there is always discussion about what happened to Hattie but this week they dropped Nora completely too. Who was home with her when Kristina and Adam jumped in the car to go get Max? They need a better continuity person for stuff like that.

^^ PP - sorry, I meant last week's - I just watched it last night.

Still hate Joel after this episode. If he thought the marriage was in trouble why did he insist on adopting a kid and an older on at that. I understand his complaints and issues but they had JUST adopted a kid and he wouldn't even going to marriage counseling he just left. When Julia had the affair, Joel had already shut her out. She was trying to communicate Victor's problems with him and he just shut her down.

Looking forward to next week, I'm glad that Julia hooks up with that school dad. Joel's a little troll.

Isn't that school dad a recovering alcoholic? Why, oh why, are they meeting up at a bar?

Wait--isn't she hooking up with Max's hot teacher in the clip?

Joel has plenty of reasons to be irked, but so does Julia. For some super successful hotshot attorney, you'd think she could make just as impassioned a speech as he did. I don't get why she just sits there and takes it.

I don't have much to add except that I love this show. My husband hates watching because "it's like real life, why would I watch that?" but that's precisely why I love it.

This is my favorite show. I look forward to it every week.

I actually find the Joel/Julia storyline believable. Joel is a silent/non-communicative type. It built up over time and now he's gone over the edge. Julia did act impulsively when she quit her job. She did not discuss this with Joel before acting. They've shown us several issues where Joel/Julia were not communicating and resentment was building up.

I think Julia's impatience/impulsiveness may be the nail in the coffin of the marriage. In yesterday's episode, Joel said to her that if she was pushing for an answer right now about fixing their marriage, the answer was no. To me, that said he needed more time and wasn't sure how he would feel in the future. But Julia can't stand the limbo, and from the sneak peek, she's rushing into a relationship with the green team dad. If she does sleep with green team dad now, I have a hard time imagining Joel ever getting past that.

I still really like Julia, even if her actions are not the most thought-through and smart. She seems like a real person.
