Zeke normally annoys me so much, but when he's good, he's just great. Loved his visit to Joel.

Sidney is annoying in every single scene she has EVER been in. She's more annoying than Dana in Homeland.

I'm totally on team Sarah this episode. Max was out of line. How else could she have handled it? Risk missing a critical deadline? I can't stand when Christina goes into Mama Bear mode over Max. I know I should find it admirable, but I don't. Or I guess I do in theory, but Max aggravates me. I wish they'd give him some (any!) endearing qualities. And I say this as a parent to a similar kind of kid.

Drew-- You have no claim on Natalie. Stop being pissed that she has a life of her own.

I hope they don't sell the house. It's one of the best characters in the whole show.

She had an emotional affair, and lied about it.

I disagree. She had no romantic illusions about that guy. She only ever saw him as a friend, albeit one she became too close to. If he had been a woman, all of those same actions and thoughts would have been completely benign. They shared the kind of stuff that girlfriends share with each other. She just needed a friend. During that whole period, she kept trying to connect to Joel (i.e. the scene where she went to his work trailer wearing sexy things to seduce him). Her romantic focus was always Joel.

The thing is early in the first episode almost exactly the same thing happened where Joel was the SAHP, began to spend time with a female parent and she tried to kiss him.

I think a bigger issue is that Joel put his life on hold for years to support Julia and her career. He enjoyed being a SAHD, but at the same time everything in the family was focused on supporting Julia's career, Julia's role as mother, etc . . . Then after he made those sacrifices she walked away from the career he helped built, without consulting him and forced him to switch roles. But once he became the primary breadwinner, she still expected him to be at her beck and call. I think he was frustrated at how self centered she is, and when the opportunity to leave presented itself he took it.

Max looks more like Sarah (Lauren Graham) than he does Adam or Kristina.

The show should have shown huge medical bills from Christina's cancer dx and treatment. Can't see them having super great insurance being self-employed. THAT would be more real life than running off mayor and opening a school

But Julia didn't walk away from her career. She was fired and devastated because of it. She did NOT want to be a SAH parent. She did want a little more balance after they adopted their son, but that was understandable given his extra needs while adjusting to a new family. I always felt like Joel was totally supportive of those efforts. She did expect Joel to still be available sometimes after he started working, but her demands weren't really frivolous or frequent. She was clearly struggling in her new role at home-- both with the "work" of it and with the blow to her identity and ego-- and I don't think Joel really appreciated that. I get that his job is demanding and his boss is unforgiving but he just didn't even seem sympathetic to Julia. Her world was totally rocked by losing her job, and Joel treated her like a pesky bug.

Not to mention the fact that Julia seems to have lost her job, plus they're maintaining 2 households, but there's no drop in income there either.

No, she quit. She made a mistake, and when called on the carpet she quit rather than trying to work things out. I understand that she was struggling, but what she wants, as far as sympathy and help with the "work" of being at home isn't something she gave to Joel when he was the one at home.

Well she looks like Paula Patton and Thicke's son. Their son is white and blonde. He has Thicke's mother's coloring. It happens more often than people realize.

So what? Neither one are black or mixed -are they?

Really? I thought they were going to fire her but gave her the option to quit instead. Maybe I remember it wrong. And didn't she almost land another job but when they found out about her mistake and rescinded the offer? I didn't see her asking Joel for help with the work of being at home, just for moral support.

Joel is being an ass. Which sucks, because he is acting out of character, and it threatens the integrity of the story line. Remember the scenes where he got hammered with his boss? When Julia needed him and he bailed?
Anonymous
I think Julia's option was make work her first priority, or quit, and she chose to quit.

Yessssss. Paula Patton's father is black and her mother is white.

Max aggravates me, and I hate how Christina treats him, ughhhh. The fact that nobody ever mentions Haddy is really weird

Julia cheated on Joel. She had an emotional affair and kissed a man. He is trying to get his head wrapped around it. Of course, they had problems in their marriage and Joel is not faultless but Jullua is the one who had an affair. Maybe he's over at survivinginfedelity.com.

Is that really an affair?
