If you HAD to chose one - which school would you go to: VA Tech or PENN State

#1 - State Flagship University - Penn State is the public flagship university in a large state while VA Tech is the #3 public university in Virginia. That is a big benefit to Penn State's reputation and they will continue to get a good number of the top PA students which also over time burnishes the school's reputation and alumni network.

#2 - Alumni Network - Penn State has a larger and stronger alumni network in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic then VA Tech and also around the country to some extent. Now if you know you want to end up in DC Area or Southeast then VA Tech's network may be a little better so regional preference is a factor.

Isn't University of Pennsylvania the state flagship in Pennsylvania?

Ha ha ha. I hope this is not a serious question. Penn is not even a state school, much less the flagship.

I think Virginia Tech is the Flagship school of NJ based on the high number of Jersey kids who attend!

Maybe the same at VA Tech, but the Penn State drinking culture is out of control, and it's in the middle of nowhere. It looks like a Communist bloc city on a Siberian plain.

....as opposed to Virginia Tech in that thriving Metropolis of Blackstown. Oh, and Penn State is USNews #37 versus Va Tech which is tied with Rutgers, Minnesota, and Texas A&M just above the 73nd spot.

Happy Valley is a great location for college. It is beautiful country. Facilities are great.

You don't have the nonsense of a city to compete for dollars and attention.
