Penn State, due to its much smaller proximity to southwestern Virginia. |
Penn State if money wasn't an issue. |
Unlikely. VA Tech accepted a whopping 70.4% of all applicants. That is hardly elite or even selective. Penn State accepted just 54.2% of applicants. Even adjusting generously for any regional disadvantage, Tech is easier. High schools in NOVA send large numbers of every class to Tech so there are lots of kids are getting in. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/virginia-tech-3754 http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/pennsylvania-state-university-university-park-6965 |
VA Tech |
Virginia Tech has the best animal husbandry program in the state. When it comes to learning goat breeding, Tech is the clear choice, it puts that fancy Penn State to shame.
|
I agree. That school is off my list, and I hope alumni giving has completely dried up. |
Tech. |
I didn't realize high school seniors were on DCUM. Was Penn State ever on your list? Hard to believe your are comfortable with that other school where so many students have been murdered. |
PSU loves the B+ applicant from a Northern Virginia, whereas VT is looking for GPA over 4.0 from kids around here. |
PS is happy with 3.5 from NOVA kids. You can't even get into JMU with that from NOVA and no way VT |
Ah, but you repeat yourself. |
THe PP is not talking about overall statistics, but for HS in NOVA where Viriginia Tech is particularly competitive - In State tuition is is a huge factor. According to Naviance on McLean HS acceptances to both schools: over 1200 apps for VT and over 300 for Penn State (University Park). Virginia Tech Accepted Average: 4.02 with a strong line around 3.85 for acceptance (above) and rejections (below) SAT 1600: 1341 SAT 2400: 2000 ACT 29 Penn State Accepted average: 3.66 and many accepted down to 3.0 SAT 1600: 1277 SAT 2400: 1900 ACT 28 |
Wow, if "many" Penn State apps were at 3.0 and the average was 3.66, that means "many" were above 4.0. This is the problem with unverifiable data posted on faith.
Clearly many top McLean graduates are using Va Tech as a low cost safety. It would be interesting to see who actually attended. |
Actually, it looks like Pann State is the safety. |
Yeah, you're right, raising $13 million for cancer research in the course of a weekend 2weeks ago is completely immoral. What has the school on your "list" done lately? Penn State, OP. |
