| She looks. like. a. !DINO! |
| A really vicious one at that. |
| She is starving herself to death and looks horrible. Her appearance screams untreated mental health issues! Resembles Karen Carpenter right before she dropped dead of organ failure. |
Seriously? |
| Yes, she needs treatment for her eating disorder. |
| The both seem like nice people but appear goofy |
Now you're just being ridiculous. |

Many of these posts are a bit extreme. I posted much earlier, wondering about the make-up, too. (I think she is attractive and athletic, but her make-up at the Olympics just seemed strange.)
Anyway, I just saw her on Dancing with the Stars. When she met her partner, her make-up looked awful again. So overdone. For the actual performance her make-up looked fine. My thought is - does she do her own make-up for ice dancing performances? Presumably she did it herself to meet her dance partner for the show. But when a professional does it, she looks great. Suffice to say, I am wondering if this experience on the show will make her realize how to apply make-up properly....or at least what NOT to do. |

I just spotted a recent interview from Ellen with both Charlie and Meryl, and they are fun to watch and listen to, and both look nice:
|
| She's an Olympic athlete. I'm sure she eats, come on |
I think it's the makeup. She should ditch the pink and purple eye shadow. It doesn't work for her. |
| One can see through her bones. There is no doubt that she has some kind of eating disorder. She is quite emaciated. |
|
She probably had to keep her weight down for the sport, like gymnasts. She has that look about her, like her development was stunted because she was underweight.

I think she's a tremendous athlete, very well-spoken and clearly, highly driven. I too thought she wasn't underweight at all -- it's a very lean and toned physique.
Then I saw her last night on DWTS. I could see her sternum, clear as day. It hurt to look at. That's underweight. And it's also not "that's just how her body is." I still think she's really pretty and exceptional in her field, but seeing her sternum was disturbing. |
You know, that's what I always thought, but several elite skaters have admitted disordered eating during their competitive careers. Tanith Belbin, a former ice dancer, had a lot of issues until a new coach encouraged her to get help and gain weight (I don't have a source to link offhand but you can Google it). Meryl looks healthy to me and stronger than Tanith ever did, but you just never know. |
