Meryl Davis: Is it the Make-up?

I hate that we analyze and criticize females athletes appearances. I don't mind it in models or even actresses because so much of their work is based on appearances but in an Olympic athlete it seems unfair and unfocused.

She is very very thin, and that shows in her face.

I don't get an anorexic vibe from her at all. She's thin like dancer, but anorexics usually have those lines around the mouth and nose, and have faces that look sunken and weary. Meryl looks lean yet strong. She doesn't look emaciated. If she were anorexic, there would be no way she would have the energy to skate like she does.

Her facial features do look Avatar & Disney-ish, but definitely distinct features.

Appearance is very much part of this sport. Ice dancers wear costumes, not uniforms like gymnasts. Choice of costumes, make-up, hair etc. matter a lot.

Yeah, looking at her skate, there's no way she's anorexic (she might well have some other kind of disordered eating, who knows?--but she's not restricting her calorie intake excessively). She's thin but very strong. She just has unusual features--her eyes are wide-set and her face is a little flat. I think she looks like a Disney princess, too. The makeup is meant to show up from the ice, so it's a bit extreme up close.

Well I just looked it up. His name is Paul. Both families sound quite normal and nice. The dads aren't there because they get too nervous watching.
