OK, I will start this thread - Sela

As for the rest of us, no one is happy to see what appears to be a promising charter fail. I'm not a SELA parent, but I think it's pathetic to lie about the school to trick the public. I think it's too far for my pre-schooler to walk for 15 minutes to a playground, so someone saying there's a playground across the street is lying. Plain and simple. It's completely unnecessary. SELA has a lot of wonderful things planned and will probably overcome the principal's resignation, though I'm sure that presented a challenge. So, lying and degrading parents does nothing buy make SELA sound gross. So far, the praying I'm doing is thanking goodness I'm not at a charter with dishonest vitriolic parents. Such a shame!

+1.

The location of the playground does not seem to be an insurmountable obstacle for the parents. The departure of the principal is unfortunate, but not likely to sink the entire program.

Actually, the playground thing would be really important to me. I don't think I'd send my very energetic boy to a school where he had to spend half his recess walking to and from the playground.

But you are not a parent there. The parents who are actually there presumably knew the issues with outside space before they enrolled. Everyone gets to make a choice. I do not have a child at Sela, and have even questioned the school in the past in a way that really pissed some people off. But seriously, its like vulture-town on this thread. We now know the principal had a health issue, so I don't see any reason to continue to find ways to criticize this school. Let it go.

(not the PP you're responding too) The problem, I think, is that one or several PPs were trying to convince us that "across the street" equals 15-minute walk. False advertising. I have nothing at all against the school, but get suspicious when Sela boosters act worse than used car salesmen, in what is already becoming a clear pattern at least here on DCUM.

In summary: I hope Sela succeeds. I hope BS stops.

+1 Thanks for this excellent nutshell summary. We all want SELA to succeed and excel. We don't want boosters to upsell with false information, which is unnecessary. GL Sela and Sela families.

Obviously, you have a lot of time on your hands, but you're really doing too much. I looked up the address on google maps - and I can see why the poster thinks it's across the street and why others think it's down the street. Both are equally valid descriptions. I myself would use "close" "near by" "around the corner." My choice of adjective, particularly since my kids are not at Sela, doesn't make me liar - it makes me a human being who is not you - not your robot - an independent person stating my perspective.

Not a new poster. Just an old sock puppet. Your choice of adjective does not make you a liar. Claiming your kids are not at Sela does.

Fascinating.

I was away all weekend and just catching up - yes, *truly* fascinating!

NP - you people who hate Sela are creepy. No, we are not a Sela family, we're just ordinary Washingtonians who want to see our city succeed and our tax dollars not be a complete waste of money. Clearly that's too much to ask of several of our councilmembers.

Here's a thought: DC concedes any interest in politics, and in return, residents pay zero federal income tax. Therefore, there is no taxation without representation. Furthermore, after a few years of being a tax haven, people who can actually make intelligent decisions about money (personal and political) will start to become a larger share of the voting block. Hopefully a majority, but at least a plurality.

Becoming a tax haven would make DC a magnet for intelligent, financially responsible citizens.

Nevermind, this obviously makes too much sense for anyone in DC to get on board.

Even more truly fascinating. Sela, what have you done to attract this crowd?

Seriously! Between the defensiveness about the boosting (boosters of all schools usually get asked to stick to opinions/experiences and not just boost/sock-puppet and certainly not lie ), and the whackadoodle occasional comment like Mr./Ms. "No fed taxes = better DC citizens" above, you have to wonder what that's all about!

Returning to the original subject...is there already a new principal?
