| Neighbor who put her daughter there just told me that the principal resigned today. Yikes! Anybody know what's going on? We were considering enrolling our younger child next year and for some reason, this gives us pause. Isn't it odd timing? |
| Seriously? Can someone confirm this? What a blow to those families who are taking the chance. |
| What? Did they say why? |
| OP here - well, neighbor says they learned of it via a notice sent home with their child. The FB page for Sela has a post from that an "important letter" went out today. I didn't see said letter myself, so I am not sure if a reason was given. |

I knew that was going to happen. She couldn't even say the name of the school correctly, I think she was in way over her head--and commuting from Baltimore?
We won a space in the initial lottery for prek but got in at our top choice immersion charter so gave up the spot. I was really, really hoping it would work out for them though. This is a major dissapointment. |
| She didn't strike me as the best person for the job. I hope they find someone better. Dr. Lody will fill in in the meantime. |
| Ouch. For any brand new charter, this is a big, big ouch. |
| Can any SELA families comment? |
Honestly, she was not very warm at any of the outreach events. The teachers are AMAZING and Dr. Lody is an experienced principal himself. It doesn't worry me in the slightest. |
| Sounds like it was for the best. Better now than to screw things up and leave a mess. |

Veteran of startup charter here. It's not completely uncommon for first principal after the founder to bolt. So long as the founder and founding board members are there, it's probably not as bad as it sounds. Especially when a founder has BTDT like Sela's. If the teachers and staff aren't sad to see the principal go, it's probably a good thing she left sooner rather than later.
When the teachers start disappearing before the end of the first year, then it's time to panic. |
| My son is in love with his teacher. He calls her the most beautiful girl in the world, which bruised my ego considerably. DH has been dropping him off all week - finally met her today. She looks exactly like Bar Rafaeli. I felt better! When I spoke with the principal at one of the beautification days she mentioned she was a single mother. I think her kid has/had a health issue. Can't imagine commuting from B'more every day. Probably for the best. |
uh, it's common for a principal to leave at the end of the first year, i'll give you that.....but to bolt in the first week? holy crap. that school may never recover. |
| She was the founding principal, I thought. |
The kindergarten teacher? She is cute. |
