The mother of all McMansions in Cleveland Park

Hate to break it to you but lawyers will make money on this one either way.

The person writing so many of these threads sure knows a lot of the details of the process--in addition to providing aerial photographs and exhibits, etc. to buttress their "case." Everyone take a look and see who the attorneys are on this matter and look at the $$$ they stand to gain if this house/mansion, whatever you want to call it, fails to get approval. Welcome to Washington, ladies! Everyone has an agenda....

These 'details' are all public information. I read about the original meeting on the CP listserve and read the story in the NW Current about the meeting and the architect's comments. It's not hard to find this stuff out.

Did the prospective owners make any statements?

I don't think so; at least it was not mentioned in the article. The architect stated that part of the reason why it is so big is that they plan to have them, their three daughters, and both sets of grandparents living there. Unfortunately I couldn't make the meeting in person.

Mr. Barnes said at the public meeting that he needed to design the house for a very big "program." Indeed.

Egads. What, are they a newer version of the Beverly Hillbillies?

Is he trying to get himself fired?

He's just trying to drum up some business. This current project is obviously kaput. But there's a huge market for this kind of monstrosity in Potomac.

PP, are you suggesting that Potomac is tacky and nouveau?

Yes, yes she is. Because, yes, yes it is.

based on the article of the Current, the prospective buyers are a couple from Potomac, so this explain everything

Did anyone go to the ANC meeting tonight? Impressions?

The house was dropped from the ANC agenda -- the prospective purchasers withdrew their application and reportedly walked,

Interesting use of DCUM to get the word out there. Some would call it manipulative. Others may call it smart.

I hate that term noveau riche. The old rich are either no longer truly rich, or are just sponging off of generations' past. The newly rich made it their on their own. I propose the term be abolished and be replaced with the term "deservedly rich."

You can take the Noveau Riche out of Potomac, but you can never take the Potomac out of the NR.

I think you are seriously overestimating the influence of DCUM.

I like it. I think it looks nice, and I've seen far worse. People should be able to build what they want on property they own. So what if it's not the same style as everything else in the neighborhood?

People who think they should be able to build what they want shouldn't try to build it in a place with the strictest architectural and historic designations within at least a hundred-mile radius.
