The mother of all McMansions in Cleveland Park

Really? Can't they buy the property and get the building approved later?
Anonymous
That would stop me from buying the house next door. Which I love.

Is it a parking garage or mini-mall? It's effing hideous and I find it hard to believe CPers will approve anything that remotely looks like it.

if it all within zoning, all detractors can go fly a kite!

Maybe they know this is a real stretch, to put it mildly, and don't want to assume the purchase risk.

Zoning is only part of it. Any new house is subject to deeds and restrictions at Rosedale put in place by the historic preservation board, which has to approve the plans. On top of that Rosedale is a registered landmark in the middle of an historic district. There may be kite flying at Rosedale (for real, in the spring), but not about this project.

Is it the kind of stately home with the arches on the right side of the photo? What's not to like? I don't see it as all that bad. But I suppose we are all entitled to our own opinion.

Maybe you're not familiar with the neighborhood and the houses that surround Rosedale. This proposed house is not in keeping with the architectural requirements.
Anonymous
You're right, although I thought the neighborhood had some pretty big homes. And the large sloping lawn in the front seemed to counterbalance its size. I also like the roof. That said, I sense there is a proportionality issue that you all are more familiar with.

Who owns the lot?

I dont think it horrible - not my taste, a little medditeareanian(yes, I know thats spelled wrong) but isnt the lot large enough you will not see it really?

The house pretty much fills the lot, coming right up to the edge of the Rosedale grounds. The green lawn you see in the picture isn't the lot, it's the park. The house becomes the most dominant visual at Rosedale, which is an historic landmark. That's the issue.

it would look great on Chain Bridge Road, between the French chateau and the renaissance palace

Absolutely hideous. Doesn't go with anything in the neighborhood. I'm sure it will be opposed.

Why does it have an aquaduct beside it? Does it need its own water supply?
