The experiences of individual members of a group do not reflect the experiences of an entire group. (Or, my favorite new DCUM phrase: "The plural of anecdote is not data.")

Jewish people I know--whose parents are very proud of them indeed--are teachers, artists, musicians, professors, scientists, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and, yes, even doctors and lawyers. Although most lawyers I personally know are Protestant.

Yet there is an old and very wise saying in the legal community; "If you are in real trouble always hire a Jewish lawyer".

And so many non-Jewish families in this area are dying for their kids to become fire fighters!

That sounds like a backhand slap at the firefighting profession.

There are degree programs in fire fighting. The profession is not what you think it is.
Most common is the associates degree.

Jewish lawyers can be very good lawyers. That doesn't mean that all Jews are lawyers. That's just faulty logic in the context of this conversation.

Hey...I'm Jewish and seriously considered firefighting.

Yes, yes. I am anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, anti-Gay, anti-Black. Basically, I am anti-anything-that-gets-discussed-on-DCUM. Or, so some of our posters would have it. But, one thing that I am not is a coward hiding behind anonymity. So, on balance, I feel pretty good about myself.

You know, your participation in this website provides me with financial support. So, you are knowingly helping finance someone you believe to be an anti-Semite. Where is the courage of your convictions?

Its not faulty logic nor does it imply that all Jews are lawyers. The thinking that has been passed on to generations of lawyers is that if you are in serious trouble you better hire a Jewish attorney.

Sure, but that doesn't add anything to THIS conversation, which is about whether or not Jewish parents are upset if their children grow up to be something other than doctors or lawyers. Yes, Jewish people can be awesome lawyers! (Not arguing that with you at all.) But that's not all they can be, nor all their parents may hope for them.

I thought the thread was about why the MOCO schools are closed on the most serious holidays in the Jewish year.

My sister and I are both teachers and we're Jewish. I guess our elderly parents are hiding in shame. NOT! Damn, people on here are stupid!

Yet there is an old and very wise saying in the legal community; "If you are in real trouble always hire a Jewish lawyer".

What does this mean?
Is there some kind of old-boys-club network of lawyers and judges etc that support each other and where the success of some cases depend on whether the lawyer is liked?

For what it is worth, ny jewish divorce lawer was mediocre, if even that

I don't believe Jeff is antisemitic, but I must have led a sheltered life because the casual stereotyping and sheer ignorance in this thread seems like it comes from the 1950s. Guess it's good to get reminded of my privilege once in a while.

Essentially, every post in this thread that promotes Jewish stereotypes is from this poster. I will be removing additional posts in this thread from this individual.

Wow, This is so crazy, I'm Gamoratz, just have not registered yet. I live in Hawaii and was looking to see if there were any Jewish holidays that any state observed because here in Hawaii the state offices are closed on Good Friday. I just thought that was weird. I am Jewish by birth, mom was Jewish, dad and his mom and dad were Jewish so I'm Jewish too. I however do not follow judiasm but follow some Christianity but mostly I'm in the human race where we are tolerant to all others races and religeons.

So my question is, if church and state are suppose to be seperate why do we have any religous holidays off at the state level?

Thank you.
Gary
