The rampant antisemitism is the worst part of dcum. But then again, Jeff is anti Semitic. |
I agree on the first part (no idea if Jeff is anti Semitic but I hope not). It gets bad again around Christmas. In fact last year after December I managed to stay off dcum for two months but then gradually came back. |
The rampant anti-Catholicism is much, much worse. I'm not Catholic or Jewish, and that's my observation. I agree there seems to be one, but only one, anti-Jewish poster on this thread. So if you think this thread is anti-semitic, then I think you have a pretty think skin. The surprising thing, to me, is that Jews have identified themselves while participating in anti-Catholic and anti-Christian threads. Especially around Christimas.... The most nutty was the self-proclaimed Jew who was going on and on about how the Catholic church ran whorehouses - anyone remember her? I'm sure there are Christians who bash Jews, but so far they've not identified themselves as such, so I can't point to actual evidence to support my supposition. Anyway, bashing each other is |
14:36 again. I should clarify that threads about ALL religion peak in December. This would probably be why there is an annual peak in anti-semitic, anti-catholic posts. Often it actually starts out with an atheist OP sincerely asking "why do you believe in God" or a mean atheist asking "why do you worship your Christmas tree" (anyone remember that one) and then posters inevitably start to pick on individual religions.
Ugh. In my view, everyone but the mean atheist deserves respect. |
Sigh. Jew here. The word "rabbi" literally translates as "teacher." One of the most respected professions a Jewish person can have. Education is of utmost importance in our culture, and it's a very important position to be able to aid others in their education, especially considering a teacher has to be learned him/herself. Some Jewish people push their children toward being doctors and lawyers; so do some Muslims, some Christians, some Atheists... |
Isn,t there some jewish private schools? Those are full of jewish kids.
I mean even though mont county has a large amount of jewish, there are not many jewish kids in public school. So how is it antisemitic to question the need for schools to be closed? |
Um, not all Jewish children go to Jewish schools. There are plenty of Jewish kids in the county public school system. Plenty. This thread, as always, has gotten way out of hand. |
Aren't there some Christian private schools? Those are full of Christian kids. I mean why close school on Christmas when those Christian kids can go to Christian school? Hopefully the moron poster I quoted will be able to pick up on my scarasm. then again, I'm probably giving him/her too much credit. What a dumbass! |

I don't even want to mention hoW many times I've personally reported this thread. Yep, still here. |
I can't tell you how many Jews that I know who would shrink up and die of embarrassment if their children did not become doctors or lawyers. I know of one family who disowned their son because he went to the fire academy. |
agree, that is why they are not under-represented as a minority in the big 3 private schools.
Most christian schools are very nominal and cater to all religions. You will not find non-jewish kids at the jewish private schools. They are white-only |
And so many non-Jewish families in this area are dying for their kids to become fire fighters! |
That sounds like a backhand slap at the firefighting profession. |
The experiences of individual members of a group do not reflect the experiences of an entire group. (Or, my favorite new DCUM phrase: "The plural of anecdote is not data.") Jewish people I know--whose parents are very proud of them indeed--are teachers, artists, musicians, professors, scientists, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and, yes, even doctors and lawyers. Although most lawyers I personally know are Protestant. |
