Glad to hear it. If either the Hebrew or Arabic immersion schools get approved, they would be great additions too, IMHO. |
The school needs to open in 2 years, so it is highly unlikely those new schools would be part of the process. Since it's hard to visualize how the charters for this will work I wouldn't have any idea if other schools could sign on later. |
I agree with the 12:40 poster, it would be awesome. |
I don't get why Stokes would announce this to their parents in the first place, then people on this forum are saying they aren't interested? This doesn't make sense. |
The more charters that want to sign on, the less likely the charter will be amended. Sooner or later, people will catch on that the privileged charter families are creating their own separate school system on the taxpayers' dime and there will be a backlash. |
I think this makes a lot of sense (and we are in a charter that's not part of this group) because people need FEEDER systems. Having to go back to the lottery will lead people to leave the District. |
Similar to Oyster, wouldn't you have to have a written/oral test in the immersion language to qualify for entry? You can't just have English-only kids plopped into a middle school with immersion tracks. So very few kids would qualify outside of Stokes, Oyster and LAMB, etc. |
illegal in the charter world. charters can NOT have entrance exams. Only DCPS can. So you see test in to upper grades for immersion in DCPS, test in to selective high schools in DCPS, and NOT in charter. |
As I understand it (my child is at one of the schools) the middle or high school will not be immersion, but an IB program with middle to advance language offerings. This would not exclude kids that are not fluent and have some basic knowledge of a language through elementary school. This would be unique to DC because there is no public school that focuses on IB and language. |
There was a meeting last week--what was the outcome? |
SELA will be in DCI. For sure. |
No, I never even heard of that school. Sorry! |
Quit making sh*t up. |
This may be an ignorant question so bear with me...why do you think Stokes, LAMB, Mundo Verde and YY students should get guaranteed admission into DCI? I understand they would come from schools where foreign language is taught seriously, and in some cases, via immersion, but these languages are (as far as I know) not the ones that DCI will offer - Hebrew and Arabic - correct? I would understand guaranteed admission for a kid who went into Arabic immersion elementary, but why from a Spanish-immersion elementary? |
It is in Yu Ying charter amendment resquest. You can read it for yourself..That is where I got the informaion from. |
