DC Bilingual isn't an independent school, it doesn't have independent resources to commit to the project. It's a part of Centronia, which really is primarily focused on early childhood - on several different campuses, including in Maryland. That's a pretty different mission. |
Really? My impression was that she was very interested and pleased to pass along the news, and is waiting on the board (really of all the schools) to figure out all the details. It would be extremely foolish to announce this to parents without any genuine intention of following through. |
Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? You have no idea how any of this is being organized. Let me say it again, NO IDEA. |
Is this charter anyhow related to the Washington International School that submitted the original charter that was totally redrafted to eventually become Yu Ying? That school was a scary proposal that basically desired a private school for upper middle class kids (no core subject remedial or second language assistance and little if any provision for special ed) on the taxpayer's dime. |
No. That charter was rejected a long time ago. This concept is proposed as a joint project between several existing schools. |
they were trying to steal the name? cos there is already a Washington International School |
Ex-Stokes Parent? Sounds to me as though you had a child that did not get in. I don't have a child in the school (although I would love to) but I do conduct thorough research. My understanding is that the Board is extremely committed and active. There are even sub committees of the board composed of experts in education, business and fundraising that also work hard to ensure continued academic rigor and financial vitality. This is why they have over a decade of proven success and their own building. This is highly unlikely with a "checked out and uninterested" board. At any rate, I hope that a school like Stokes does take their time deciding to partner with Yu Ying (need I say anything--check the threads) and Mundo Verde (a school with NO track record). If I were the Board, I would take time to consider the pros and cons. Good move Stokes! |
Clearly the Poster who claims her child left and went to Deal can't read. There is nothing is the posting from Stokes that claims that Stokes will not take part. Thank God for Stokes that this parent is gone. GOD SPEED! |
Before you get too snarky, you might keep in mind which school not only created this vision, but also found 100,000 sq. ft. in which to do it. |
My dear, the idea is not novel. |
Of course not - what parent of an immersion student hasn't thought about being able to continue the language and the program all the way through high school? Anyone can have an idea - even you and me. This, however, is the first time someone has defined a realistic concept, brought several parties to the table to make it happen, and acquired a facility in which to do it. That's something else entirely. |
LAMB parent here - l am downright giddy at the prospect of this school. I hope we can help them realize this! |
I am very nervous about YY's participation in this project. My son attends one of the other schools, and I absolutely live the warm community. I hope that can remain. |
Anti YY troll. |
Nope. I have never written a negative thing about the school. But these types of reactions make me nervous. Why is everything so polarized? |
