Why is Halloween Forbidden in Fairfax County Schools?

Must I go on?

We do Halloween trick or treating, but I don't want my kids going to school in costume.

Seriously people, Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday, but it's not that big of a deal one way or the other.

This. School is such a kill joy. You can have both education and a bit of fun. We did as kids in a very conservative, parochial school. It's really a shame.

Halloween today in my kid's FFX school was a waste of a school day. Lots of distracting costumes and a TWO HOUR party in the afternoon, which parents were encouraged to attend. They're trick-or-treating tonight, they didn't need a day of being amped up beforehand. They also have a field trip this week, early dismissal Friday, off Mon-Tues, and then the stream of holiday and snow closures in Nov-Feb... I do Halloween with my family but they don't need this at school, nor do the staff. Everything is such overkill!

Sooooo...It's not "banned".?.

Nope, not banned (in all schools at least) - mine had it too, also was nonsense and detracted from evening enjoyment.

Not banned at all. FCPS had a post on it's FB page about Halloween celebrations in schools.

We are only allowed to have two parties a year so we choose other holidays to celebrate.

My guess is complainy teachers, or, economic concerns. Is it possible 1/4 of the school cannot afford nice costumes.[b]

The principal I spoke with at one FCPS ES told me that is was unfair for the families scraping by for food and rent to have to pay for a costume/have competition for costumes.

It was a normal day. It seemed kinder.

Plus there's this:

Would you rather have a Halloween where people complain that people are wearing scary costumes, and whatever other million complaints people will have? Easier just to forgo it totally.
