S/O What is the most "out there" name you've heard on a child recently?

Hadassah is old world Jewish. I don't think it's THAT crazy. I get that one. You have to be Jewish I guess or understand Jewish culture, I suppose.

Peregrine. As in the falcon, apparently.

NOPE. Not from UP but associate with some UP babysitters. . .

And to the UP pp, I think YOU let it be known where these kids are from.

OP, you sound like a jerk

I think the UP poster's issue is that by grouping all the names together it made it clear which actual families it was about, which makes it more personal.

Maybe, but he/she outed them, not the OP.

A friend from high school (now a FB friend) named her daughter Valeena. Totally made up and she admits it. Velveeta, anyone?

Another FB friend of mine named his new daughter James.

LOL at the naming the girl James.
How urban and cool of them.

There is nothing wrong with made up names. Every name was made up at some point. And if your issue with made up names is "they don't have a meaning," the meaning of a person's name is relevant to relatively few people in their daily lives.

And no, no one in my family has a "made up" name, so I'm not defending it from a personal standpoint.

Mercy

Patience

I like these names. We joked we should name our kid Patience, hoping that she'd actually have some. We are lacking in that department.

I'm the PP...I love these names. My little 4 year old cousin is Mercy, and my best friend in college was Patience. If the baby inside me right now is a girl, I will be considering those names.

Thanks

I tried my best not to give my children names that were ridiculous.

Hopefully, the children "blessed" with these names will be born tolerant and forgiving, as they'll most likely endure pain and suffering from others!

Well, aren't you a charmer?

So, people should all name their kid's only top 20 names to avoid being teased? Ridiculous.

Your friend may have thought she made it up, but Velina is a pretty common eastern european name. I know two.

pp here, since she is a FB friend, I think I have issue with Valeena with two e's more than how the name sounds. Velina is much nicer looking. I just can't help thinking of velveeta. . .

That's your issue. Valeena isn't some crazy-sounding name that's likely to get the kid picked on any more than usual. It sounds like Selena with a "v" to me.

Maybe not. Italy's veline (singular is velina) are sexy showgirls who deliver the new copy to the anchorman (http://www.lifeinitaly.com/content/veline-letterine-and-others-unique-sexy-italian-evolution-tv-assistant).

I meant news copy, not new copy.

Just STFU, people. WHAT do you care about what others name their children? You attack other people's innocent children? Anything to feel superior - you are that desperate, and it shows. What the hell is wrong with you? Please, get help.
