NOPE. Not from UP but associate with some UP babysitters. . .

And to the UP pp, I think YOU let it be known where these kids are from.

Isis, which I think is pretty.

To the University Park person who is getting all bent out of shape. I didn't create this thread to make fun of names. It is a spin off of the "out there names you love but would never use" thread because I wanted to how many people are "brave" enough to actually name their kid an "out there" name they love.

Also, certain historical names are "out there" because they are unusual, not necessarily bad. Geeze, calm down!

So, for example, if you are just meeting some of these people (or their children) for the first time with these names, would you say to them that you feel like their name(s) was "out there"? Not an attack -- just curious...

No way. I would think they were unusual and might say that if I was getting good (friendly) vibes from the parent(s).

My child has an out there name. If someone told me they thought it was out there (to my face, many people have) I would not be offended. Obviously you don't name your child Birch or Winter if you want them to have a name just like everybody else. The unusualness is the point.

UP poster is a tool.

Were they British or Irish. I know quite a few Noels from over there.

I don't know if they're British. I too know a few Noels, but generally born in late December.

Winter is kind of cool. Birch? Really? A tree? Sycamore and Cedar are equally, um, bad. But I also think names like Stone, River, Lake (know a kid named Lagos) are kinda hippy dippy.
