S/O What is the most "out there" name you've heard on a child recently?

Anonymous
Amandine is not uncommon in France. I'm guessing the parents are immigrants.

8:12 is right, Octavio/Octavian was big in Rome. The Romans weren't very creative with names, and Octavio would have been the 8th kid (and Quintus would have been the fifth).

I like Mercy and Patience, the are old-fashioned but we have recently seen a revival of Sophia, Hannah and Emma, so there's nothing wrong with old fashioned.

Lachlan is my son's middle name. Didn't realize it qualified as "out there" alongside Marzipan and Amen!

Is Amen from a different ethnic origin? It is a common Muslim name. Pronounced Ay-men.

I'd say people were making these names up but probably not, people are strange.

I normally stay away from the name threads as they always turn mean-spirited but this time I'll play...a fb friend recently named his son Pontius....as in Pilate WTF??

My FB friend (my HS neighborhood best friend's step sister, to be more exact) named her child Khloe. You know, like a Kardashian. BLECH! It isn't completely out there, but I roll my eyes everytime I see it.

I had kid named Forrest in one of my classes-the other kids were always telling him to run.

Yeah, Lachlan is a pretty standard Celtic name. Some people are just unfamiliar with foreign names like Amandine and Lachlan.

Is his best friend named Jenny?

Seriously though, I don't see what's wrong with most of the names that 8.37 posted. U-Vox is self evident, but the rest of the list is either popular foreign names, old fashioned names, or I'm-a-bit-of-a-dirty-hippie-so-I'll-call-my-kid-after-some-odd-natural-phenomenon. I almost named my son Rocco, but it didn't sound right with our last name. Mercy's a lovely name and I wish I had a daughter to give it too.

Hadassah is a very traditional Jewish name. Joe Lieberman's wife's name is Hadassah.

I like these names. We joked we should name our kid Patience, hoping that she'd actually have some. We are lacking in that department.

I'm the PP...I love these names. My little 4 year old cousin is Mercy, and my best friend in college was Patience. If the baby inside me right now is a girl, I will be considering those names.
