Hmm, not according to Giant. Plus, you haven't seen my family eat.

I had to laugh out loud at this. Meeting the standards of the local Giant is hardly what I aspire to!
Graze away!

Hey--we could plan a snack or meal here! Let's see . . . I'll start with a couple of small carrots dipped in one of the cheese spread containers (just a small dip of the carrot, mind you), then maybe a twist off a celery stalk, a few red and green grapes (I prefer seedlesss), lift the lid off a pre-made salad and take a sample, same for the cookies, grab a few white chocolate covered pretzels, a couple of shrimp from a pre-made platter (just to be sure they're fresh), a sip of juice, and . . . well, I guess I'll run next door to Starbucks and sample part of a cookie that might be on the counter! It won't matter because grocery stores and coffee chains expect it!

That's the spirit! Now if only there's a microwave somewhere in the store so we can work in a little soup.

Excellent idea! Whole Foods has very good soup and gumbo, yet I always wonder . . . is it fresh?! Need to make sure! Now that I think of it, do you think it's okay to sample (just a teensy bite!) each item offered on their salad bar or dinner bar for takeout?

Oh, now I see how crazy it is to make sure the grapes aren't bad. Because it will lead to the unraveling of civilization.

Ah, Whole Foods then? I get it. Best to aim high.

Nope. But it's still taking what's not yours. It's the old adage that your behavior when no one's looking says a lot about your character.

And I believe that the fruit manager at at least one major chain...Safeway or Giant or one of those has gone on camera as saying that the store is HAPPY to have customers sample a grape or cherry or whatever it is before they buy. Lighten up, Gertrude.

Hmm, generous. Sorry, but still don't support the sampling.

Yeah, isn't there some kind of "grazing welcome" sign in the Giants?

You don't need to taste grapes or cherries to know if they are good. Sweet grapes are yellowish. Good melons smell sweet and yield. Sweet cherries have rich dark jewel tones. Red Delicious apples taste disgusting. Granny Smith and Rome apples have a better texture.

Attention, please: Is there a translator on the board?
