Sampling fruits in produce section

Anonymous
I always sample cherries and grapes. I prefer my fruit ripe and sweet - don't you? It is also customary at farmers markets to sample the produce - most vendors happily offer samples. I don't see the big deal.

Really? Eating an apple while I shop at Trader Joes makes me shopping at a store for poors?

No, my original response (at 15:49) was intended for the first poster at 15:46; the post you refer got put up before mine so the sequence was thrown off.

Lighten up, Gertrude.

Hmm, generous. Sorry, but still don't support the sampling.

I'd say something to the person, and/or complain to management.

I have an irrational hate for that show. I couldn't tell you exactly why I hate it, but I do.

Agree with PPs- who cares! This is really what you post about? I hope you are all sampling your cherries at $7.99 a pound.

This is why I love Whole Foods - samples are always available and if not they will happily give one if asked. My 6 yo (whose favorite word is "boooring" loves going to whole foods on weekends bc he always come home with a full stomach

To those who don't mind the sampling, would you mind if you ended up buying a bag/box (I'm talking about things that are intended to be bought closed, not pulled or teased open before purchase) from which someone had taken a piece or plucked off a fruit?

LoL - you don't SUPPORT it? What are you going to do? Start a pickett line? Withdraw your subsidies? Award punitive damages?

Totally irrelevant and nonsensical. Boxed and bagged items are standardized and don't need to be sampled for taste and ripeness. Sorry, not in any way comparable.

Why on earth would I mind? I'm sure that the great majority of the time most of us do just that. I always wash the produce, so I really couldn't care less.

Not PP, but I'm pretty sure she meant a bag of apples or a box of tangelos. Still fruit, but sold by the box/bag.

I agree with this. The thought that someone was previously groveling around in the fruit that I am selecting from is distasteful. What if they lick their fingers and then dive in for another taste? Yuck. If the store offers free samples, that is one thing. Otherwise it sounds unsanitary as well as rude.

PP here, forgot to add, why would anyone want to eat fruit that has not been cleaned yet? Haven't you read about all the issues with contamination of produce?

Thanks, PP, for the support. Good that someone on here is also not so keen on this whole sampling idea. Yes, as a previous poster pointed out, I'm referring to fruit that is enclosed (as I said, meant to be sold in closed containers/bags).

I've started sampling grapes just because my DC won't eat them if they're to sour (and I can't really blame him for that), so I want to make sure I'm buying something he'll eat. I really don't think its a big deal.
