GT/AAP Decisions: JUST THE SCORES, PLEASE!

03/30/2011 13:04 here -- did this two years ago. DC was in the 2nd grade pool and we opted to refer anyway. Scores:

===
NNAT 116

CogAT v 133 q 121 nv 114 composite 126

WISC-IV (submitted as supplemental):
VCI 152 PRI 131 WMI 107 PSI 100

Accepted

Doing great

NNAT 148
CogAT 130 nv
123 quantitative
122 verbal
GBRS 11

Supplemental material included an essay for which DC won an award, and parent letter noted DC is youngest in class and shy. (Since January DC has received all Os on tests.)

Thanks for any insights!

My child's scores are somewhat similar (I posted them earlier) - 140 on NNAT, 138 on CogAT nv, 126 q, 117 v, GBRS 12. 2nd grade report cards are mostly O's and a few G's. I was advised by a few that the chances of getting in are good. Good luck to you.

11:06, those seem like great scores across the board. DC's teacher said that a GBRS of 12 or above is very good. (That made me concerned about my DC's 11 GBRS!) I'd think your DC will have no problem getting in.

Glad to hear that a 12 is considered a good GBRS. My kid just barely made it into the pool (has one 130 on a subtest, all other scores are about 115) and I just found out that his GBRS is 11. I think we are on the cusp. Good luck to everyone waiting -- it won't be long now. Any one else have experience with a similar profile (just barely in the pool) and care to share your result (eligible, I hope)? Thanks!

My son has an almost identical profile as yours, 15:16, except his GBRS is 12. His high score is in a nonverbal area, so I'm hoping those threads are wrong that say the committee discounts nv scores!!!! I too would love to hear from parents who have experience with these "borderline" children!!!

any one know whether a 12 gbrs is "good" for a parent-referred (non-pool) applicant? thanks!

Without knowing any other information, it's impossible for us to tell you if this is "good". How were the OTHER elements? WISC-IV testing (if you did that), questionnaire, submitted work...etc.... More data, please.

I'm the one who posted the comments about the NV scores. I'm sorry!!! I didn;t mean to stress you out. I know it's stressful enough. My child DID get in on appeal and is doing great.

I am surprised how people know their child's GBRS score. I am not very comfortable asking my child's teacher regarding this, although I bump into her every other day.

I wanted to wait for the result. It is the one factor that is eating me. My son is very smart and comes with a baggage (active, loses focus, playful, talkative et.,). If there is any denial letter i can bet my life it is only becoz of teacher's gbrs.

Can someone tell me if it is possible for my son to have a clean shot with just his scores?

COGAT 109, 125, 15o comp 134
NNAT 154
Os in curriculum.

thanks

Unfortunately, it's never a clean shot based on just scores although that would give a lot of us comfort The scores do look very good though. Also, you don't ask the teacher abut the GBRS, you ask you Advanced Academic Resource Teacher. Because my AART works two schools, I usually just email her and she always gets back to me quickly. She will either give you the score or set up an appointment with you to review the entire file. Eligibility letters are going out immediately after spring break though, so by the time you reach her, you probably would have recieved your letter. Good Luck!

in the grand scheme of things, it is not a big deal. Last year, we were told sometime in may. Letters arrived may 1

In a lot of schools, Level 4 is a better program altogether and it would be a big deal and a great opportunity for those kids found eligible, especially for those kids who clearly need more than what general education has to offer.

Pp: I did not mean liv is not a big deal, I meant the week. Enjoy spring break, let the kids enjoy it. You will find out soon enough
