When will we know how our child scored? We may or may not want to line up tutoring for the summer. |
We heard beginning of April. |
To be honest...if you can afford tutoring during summer it can never hurt. There is no doubt going to be holes having coming out of online learning. More practice, more understanding, more confidence is always a good thing. |
How will we find out the scores? |
I would not put a child who scored 90% in Algebra I Honors. I know the cut-off is 91% but unless a student scores 95% of higher, I would not do it. It's a very fast paced take no prisoners class. Had 3 kids go through it and for each one (except the first because we had no idea what the class was like) we said if they score under 95%, even if the score pass advance on the SOL, we would put them in Math 7 Honors. We did have to do that for 1 of our kids. We will see with this one. We don't have scores back yet. |
But if it varies and a child who barely made it in with 91% will not do very well in a class like the one described above. They may do well in your daughter's class but they may not get a class like your daughter. |
The teachers will send/email them home. |

Not percent. Percentile. Big difference. |
How is FCPS honor Algebra 1 class compared with the fast-paced text-based Art of Problem Solving Intro to Algebra? Are the neighboring county LCPS & PWCS cutoff IAAT score similar to FCPS 91 percentile? |
Students do not take IAAT in 5th grade. They take SOL 7, and 82% will make students eligible for prealgebra. This can be appealed. Students who get at least 90% or request to GTE can take IAAT for placement in algebra 1 in 6th grade. 6th graders are eligible for algebra in 7th grade based on teacher recommendation, generally anyone who gets an A in prealgebra or foundations of algebra. |
AoPS Intro to Algebra is orders of magnitude more difficult than FCPS honors Algebra I. |
I have never heard of this. |
