Private & Independent Schools
There are plenty of kids who aren't thinking about college athletics, but want the best experience possible inside and outside the HS classroom. You are not going to get that at Sidwell - the administration couldn't care less about fielding competitive teams. |
Dead horse here, but other than a young and undermanned football team this year, what evidence do you have to support the statement, or is the idea that if you keep typing it, then it will eventually be true? Others have already posted past achievements of Sidwell teams over the past few years, and clearly there are teams and individuals who have enjoyed successes this academic year. |
| With the exception of the Sidwell soccer team which is 3rd best in the area (behind DeMatha and Episcopal), the examples cited are laughable. Being the best in the MAC is irrelevant. Particularly when it's a sport that nobody cares about. |
| Who cares? I don't and neither do my children. |
And if sports mean zilch for you, that is great. The kids at Sidwell get an incomplete education when it comes to athletics, but if your child has no athletic aptitude, it's a moot point for you. For any student who wants an education outside of the classroom, there are much better options. |
OK, put your money where your mouth is, sport. What school do you attend? What varsity sports do you play? Please enlighten me where you are getting your complete education outside the classroom. You've been yapping off for the past six weeks about high school football. So tell us what school you're at. And how many downs of football did you play this season? And before you falsely accuse me of being some defensive parent, I'm not. My son is only 3 years old, so he's got a way to go before he plays high school sports. I've never even been to a high school football game in DC, Virginia, or Maryland. I hardly know anything about any local high school sports programs. I'm really just tired of reading your crap. So shit or get off the pot, little boy. |

I would not brag about any education students get outside of school by playing football. There are far more elegant, athletic and cerebral athletic pursuits. Football really only amounts to dog fighting and I doubt we will even be playing the game as you know it 50 years from now. Other higher order sports (think cerebral versus brain stem) will remain pretty much as you know them today (e.g., soccer, baseball, tennis, crew, squash)
Yup. There is nothing unique or special about dog fighting with helmets and padded armour. What education derives from football that is not infinitely more high powered and refined from other sport. Football is ultimately a game for dcummies. |
Sports are important. Football is not a sport. It is an activity goons and barbarians. |
And unless you are vying for a Division 1 sports scholarship, what experiences or life-lessons or sports lessons is your child (unless this is the kid posting, which I am increasingly believing) gaining by playing in a different conference? If I am playing football for Landon, what am I getting there by playing Bullis that I am not getting if I am playing for Flint Hill against Potomac? |

Why are you even involved in this discussion? You have no knowledge of anything to do with HS sports so it hard to understand what relevancy any opinion you have on this subject. 15:37 Football is not Ultimate Fighting. Kids have to learn lots of plays, be ready to respond to situations on the field and adjust when necessary. It is pretty obvious you have never played football or had kids who play football. |
I'm involved because I am looking at schools for my son, and so I've been subjected to your non-stop yapping. I'm not offering my own uneducated opinions on this subject -- I want you to tell me why I should listen to yours. So quit dodging my question. Tell me where you are in school, and how much you are enjoying the football program there. Help educate me so I can make good choices for my son, and get him a "complete education." Where are your answers? Don't get coy on my now! |
| I'm not the person you responded to. I just find it ridiculous you care so much about the answers to these questions when your kid is only 3. Ask again in 7 years when you know what your child is interested in and if he even cares about sports. |

6 foot 4 inch and 300 - 400 athletes packing so much omental lard huffing and puffing even while walking up stairs and sucking on oxygen trying to remember their last concussion or arthroscopic intervention is a sport. Pluzz, get serious here. Go back to your fantasy football video games. Do you even know what the average life expectancy is of these heroes you worship while on your knees compared to real athletes? |
| We are talking HS not NFL. Perhaps you need to get off the couch. |
