Yep, they've had a pretty shitty football team for a few years now. You gonna bash them for that? Sweet. A parent mocking hardworking but discouraged boys because they're not good at football. You're a stud.

1. Watch your language; and

2. Nobody is mocking the team on the field. On that thread, people were mocking the administration's inability to properly support their sports program. Based on the reaction of the parents on that thread, the disdain for sports is widespread among everyone at that school.

What're you ... fourteen years old? I promise we won't wash your mouth out with soap.

Oh god, why is the Sidwell football team taking over this thread too? Can't you take this discussion to the Sidwell football thread? And BTW, why has that thread been resurrected, after it finally died?

No, I don't have a kid at Sidwell.

Sure, you don't.
The poster is a soon to be ex-husband of a Sidwell parent. He had an affair (with a GDS married mom) and when it was discovered he asked the Sidwell mother for a divorce. She said, great, let's move on. Months went by and then when she later met a single man, who happened to be a Sidwell employee, the husband went crazy and tried to get the poor Sidwell employee fired in addition to trying to get custody of the poor Sidwell kids. Sad really. Sidwell is an incredible school and the kids are very happy there.
Congrat's on your divorce !!! And wow, that IS pathetic.

Sorry, Sidwell class of 2009 alum here. I can tell you with full confidence that your assertion regarding the "widespread disdain for sports" is just false. I just don't understand why people on this site talk about things when they have literally no experience with what they're talking about. Your post makes it very clear that you have no relation to any significant number of Sidwell students or parents.

PS, I watched my language.

Disdain for sports?

Sidwell's athletic program has strengthened over the years, with many teams winning city, regional and national accolades. Sidwell has also won the MAC Director's Cup (for overall excellence in Boys sports) for the past 9 of the past 10 years (through 2010).

Over the past 3 years, the Sidwell Friends Boys Soccer program has become one of the preeminent programs in the entire Washington, DC metro area. In fall, 2006, the boys' varsity soccer team compiled a 19-2 record and was recognized as #9 in the Washington Post Top Ten soccer schools in the metropolitan area. The 2007 Boys Varsity Soccer team again won the MAC Boys' Soccer championship and achieved a second consecutive Washington Post Top Ten ranking, reaching #3 in the final poll with a 20-2 record. The 2008 team continued their recent success by winning their third consecutive MAC title, and their 4th in 5 years, with an undefeated 16-0-1 record for the season. Again, the Quakers finished the season ranked #3 in the area by the Washington Post and #36 nationally by ESPNRise.com. The 2009 squad began the season ranked #22 in the country by ESPN. In October 2009 the squad achieved a prestigious #1 Washington Post ranking. They also ended up ranked #47 in the country. Sidwell soccer alums have suited up at a number of top schools, including Maryland, Stanford, GW, Yale, Brown, Wesleyan University, Middlebury College, Washington University in St. Louis, and Williams College.

The wrestling program at Sidwell has also been a success, taking 10th place in the national prep tournament in 2003, and winning the DC Classic, a competition among all DC private schools that compete in Wrestling, in 2007 and 2008. In February 2008, the Boys Varsity Wrestling Team claimed their 7th banner in 9 years of participating in the MAC. It was also their 4th straight banner. They established clear dominance, winning the tournament by over 100 points, and boasted 8 MAC champions and one additional All-MAC selection. In January 2009, the Sidwell Wrestling team had an impressive showing at the MAC wrestling tournament—having 7 MAC champions and winning the tournament by over 80 points.

The Boy's Varsity Cross Country Team, as of 2009 won the MAC championships 4 consecutive times, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

The 2006-2007 Varsity Boys' Basketball team also enjoyed measurable success, winning the school's first ever outright conference championship in Boys' Basketball, as well as completing the most successful conference season in MAC Boys' Basketball history with a 14-0 conference record. The 2009 season saw the Quakers as co-champs in the MAC, led by star sophomore point guard Jamal Lewis.

Sidwell 2009 alum at 17:31 (and 17:33?): Please don't do this. Just stop. Everything you wrote is true, but it's all been said 500 times already. The person bashing your school is just some kid getting his jollies from how agitated he can get people. You think you're refuting his points, but you're really giving him the attention and drama he craves, which just spurs him to post more BS. If you want to portray your school in a positive light, just ignore this crap.

Are you actually crowing about winning some "Director's Cup" of the MAC? Is that something to brag about? Why do you think Sidwell left the IAC? Because they decided that they didn't care about sports.

Wow, that about sums it up. You've really got it figured out, nice work!

I've got to agree with 17:54. Excelling in the MAC, is nothing to brag about. It is a weak athletic conference.

Not for all sports. And regardless, continual domination of any athletic conference cannot be done by a school with "widespread disdain for sports".
Why don't posters bash Flint Hill or Potomac for "widespread disdain"? Sidwell beats these schools.

Saying that Sidwell dominates the MAC is laughable at best. Ask anyone associated with high school sports in this area and see what kind of reaction you get if you assert Sidwell has a better athletic program than Flint Hill or Potomac.

LOL. Sidwell has recruited a couple of guys the past two years to make their basketball team respectable. But in the sports that people care about, their teams are dominated by Potomac and Flint Hill (not that either are a powerhouse in their own right).

Continual domination. LOL.

To 13:36, do you see your DS as a Division 1 scholarship athlete? If so, I can understand the preoccupation with the athletic department of a school. If not, is there really any difference in the lessons gains from team sports, regardless of the level, be it DCIAA, IAC MAC or any of the Virginia/MD county leagues?

Check your facts; you're wrong.
Also, in high school there are no generally accepted "sports that people care about." Football, Cross Country, Soccer, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Lacrosse, Track & Field all are popular in high school and in college. Granted, only several of these sports are ultimately lucrative for American professional athletes. This does not mean that in the DC metropolitan area, only these sports matter. We aren't in Dillon, Texas (FNL reference), and you're just going to have to accept that. Sidwell wins more championships, so just get over yourself. And only recently have Potomac and Flint Hill started winning in football and lacrosse. All you have to do is look at the facts, and they're presented for you on any MAC school's website. Or via the banners in Sidwell's gym (check them out; there's WAY more than any MAC school for ANY sport in the time Sidwell's been in the league).
Stop with the sweeping, delusional statements. We get it, you have some sort of beef with Sidwell and its sports program. That's fine. But you're not going to successfully convince anyone who has real experience playing for a MAC team that Sidwell's teams "are dominated by Potomac and Flint Hill", because it's not true.
That being said, I think all those who (myself included) are coming to Sidwell's defense need to stop. Let the bitter anonymous posters pound away at their keyboards to their hearts' content. In the end they're just trying to project their insecurities and deficiencies on someone or something else.
