I actually basically agree with this... and I'm voting JLG. She cares. She tries. She engages. She took DGS to task for the sorry state of schools physically and actually got them to do things as the chair of that committee. I don't agree with some of her ideas, but I'd much rather a person like her be in charge than McDuffie. And FWIW teachers at my school are very union-involved and none of them want more PD, I think that's a weird fake talking point. Some want PD that actually affects them and/or the ability to do it from home if they're watching it on a screen anyway (reasonable) and/or the ability to count training they do one their own towards the hours requirements/get them out of other PD (seems reasonable if it's approved, like OG training classes which a bunch of our K & 1st teachers take on their own time/PTO's dime).

So many JLG supporters I've talk to try to tell me that we'll be OK because her crazy ideas won't actually come to pass. And these are her actual public supporters. I agree that she is likable and seems like she genuinely cares and listens (I've met her).

I'm a constituent of hers and I'm baffled by some people's enthusiasm for her. She's pretty arrogant and has a lot of really extreme views. If you disagree with her, she treats you like an enemy. She doesn't really play well with others. I think she's trying to sand off the edges now that there's a campaign, but she is who she is and she hasn't changed since she was first elected to the city council. My guess is that if she becomes mayor, she will go out of her way to antagonize Trump and then he will revoke home rule and then that will be that and Trump will be our de facto mayor.

I think if the charters want the money DCPS gets for IMPACT bonuses, then they should have to use the same evaluation system.

Why? The law says equal funding not that they have to spend it the same way. The point of charter schools is to provide alternatives. Charters shouldn’t don’t need to follow DCPS’s bad ideas to get equal funding.

The law does not account for what DCPS has to pay teachers in a union. So yes, it is close to equal. That $450 is real and should be addressed.

You think compensation of DCPS teachers isn’t covered in the law that provides equal funding? Your comment would suggest DCI can give their teachers a 50% raise and it doesn’t have to come out of their per student allocation because the teachers are in a union. Taxpayers would just need to provide the funds because they are in a union. It doesn’t make sense.

Yes, that is the reason. They are under an actual contract, charter teachers do not have to have a license. They don’t get a pension. Just like the police and firefighters get one, come on.

What she actually emphasizes:

• Educator retention is connected to student stability -when teachers stay, students get consistent relationships and stronger school culture.
• She wants sustainable systemic wellness built into the system, not one-off perks.
• She’s focused on facilities, outdoor learning, community schools, and after-school programs.

She went on their Podcast, it’s not like they control her. If you look at the document (that she didn’t endorse or create), there will still be 5 days of school.

I want to believe people like you are just trying to live a wonderful life in DC along side everyone. But when I see DISHONEST criticism of JLG like this, it makes me think that you all are worse than Trump supporters. At least they are honest about their selfishness and hatred.

It's the same with DCPS. Early release days are counted as full instructional days.

DCPS did have routine early release days until some years ago and counted those days as full instructional days. They changed the calendar and did away with those days. The previous poster either doesn't know what they are talking about or is purposely lying. Charters have to submit calendars to OSSE the comply with 180 days of instruction per the law.
