What a bizarre take. You do know that the current mayor of DC is a Black woman, that all DC mayors for the past 50 years have been Black, that the outgoing Chancellor of Education is a Black man, as was his immediate predecessor who himself was proceeded by a Black woman who herself followed a woman of color (y’all can hate her but she wasn’t white and she was appointed by a Black man)? That the SBOE president is a Black man and there are no white women on it at all (three white men)? That the board chair of DC PCSB is a Black woman as is the ED? Black political and educational leadership in DC is neither new nor novel. |
The bigger issue is that JLG supports this plan by Bowser to cut charter school funding to the tune of $9,700 per student compared to what DCPS would get. |
McDuffie has an entire education plan on his website - and it sounds good to me. https://kenyanmcduffie.com/platform/education |
Please do your own research. She didn’t say that and there are a lot of people spreading misinformation on purpose |
Anyone believing Yglesias at this juncture just wants a reason to be upset and support their own existing narrative. He's a hack. DC technically mandates 180 days, though there is no national minimum, so it'd likely require a lot of council time to change that for something no one has an appetite for anyways |
They skipped the education debate. Regardless of where you stand on JLG I can't fathom voting for a guy who has put in basically zero effort and refuses to do any actual constituent work. |
|
JLG is my preferred candidate but the one pager on education on her website reads like a non-committal word salad. Does anyone have a resource that explains what she'd actually do re. education while in office?
McDuffie's page meanwhile says everything I personally would want it to say, but I worry that there's a difference between saying the right things and actually delivering... I get the sense he's not so in to really doing the work. Is that right? |
Janeese wants to slash funding for charter schools, reduce classtime so teachers can get more time off and opposes raising education standards, including created gifted and talented programs. No thanks. I want someone who won't just do the bidding of the teachers union. |
Janeese filled out a questionnaire in which she said she'd give teachers more PD time. It's publicly available. As you well know, no one needs to change the 180 day rule to accommodate that. They'll just do what they always do, which is use accounting tricks to make days off count as days in session. |
Where did the part about not wanting to raise standards came from? Genuine question - really trying to understand where all the candidates stand on education issues. |
| Never fails, seriously. Parents really complaining about PD time. So outrageously short-sighted. |
Our kids are never in school. The amount of time DC schools take off is bananas. |
People on the far left (like Janeese) would rather claw their eyes out than raise academic standards because they think that's racist because they think it will hurt black kids. Their plan to reduce racial disparities in academic achievement is to make school so easy that no one can fail. |
You must be the same person. Stop lying. I am a teacher, the union does not want this. You also must not be engaged in education, teachers have testified FOR higher standards not against. There will be no slashing of charter funds. Tell me where JLG says this. It’s fine to want someone else to win, albeit a poor choice if you have children in public schools -what’s not fine is lying out of your ass to slander a candidate but also the very people who teach children. |
As opposed to an Independent who doesn’t care either way. Duff has zero credibility with public education. Has no track record of supporting initiatives beyond modernization. So he’s for using 85 million for a school with 300 kids. FYI what you said isn’t proof, just your weird and wrong feelings. |
