That the SBOE president is a Black man and there are no white women on it at all (three white men)? That the board chair of DC PCSB is a Black woman as is the ED? Black political and educational leadership in DC is neither new nor novel.

The bigger issue is that JLG supports this plan by Bowser to cut charter school funding to the tune of $9,700 per student compared to what DCPS would get.

Anyone believing Yglesias at this juncture just wants a reason to be upset and support their own existing narrative. He's a hack.

DC technically mandates 180 days, though there is no national minimum, so it'd likely require a lot of council time to change that for something no one has an appetite for anyways

JLG is my preferred candidate but the one pager on education on her website reads like a non-committal word salad. Does anyone have a resource that explains what she'd actually do re. education while in office?

McDuffie's page meanwhile says everything I personally would want it to say, but I worry that there's a difference between saying the right things and actually delivering... I get the sense he's not so in to really doing the work. Is that right?

Janeese filled out a questionnaire in which she said she'd give teachers more PD time. It's publicly available. As you well know, no one needs to change the 180 day rule to accommodate that. They'll just do what they always do, which is use accounting tricks to make days off count as days in session.

As opposed to an Independent who doesn’t care either way. Duff has zero credibility with public education. Has no track record of supporting initiatives beyond modernization. So he’s for using 85 million for a school with 300 kids.
