| The Rice and WashU movement seems very early and could be an indication that are having trouble yielding kids because they’ve all admitted the same kids. |
|
The way this works is that a regional admissions officer generally looks at who they admitted from their region and usually is able to create a yield percentage. They follow closely who is turning them down in their region (throughout April); when there are a lot of rejections for kids that they thought they would yield they know their calculations are off, and they have to move early.
Early movers can to do better than those who wait until after May 5. Kids want to wrap this up before May 1 and get a roommate and start moving on. HYPSM all generally do well after May 1. But others are mixed. Northwestern did horribly after May 1 last year and went very deep into the waitlist. |
| My kids friend just got moved off the waitlist at Pitt. |
| Scripps just made an offer to someone on the waitlist. |
ED and a national basketball championship improve yield. |
| Hopkins, WashU moved. |
WashU pulled from the waitlist the first week in April. It's honestly embarrassing. |
Hopkins has not moved |
Oh hi emory mom. Had not heard a washu diss in a day so i was worried about you. |
+1 They are definitely accepting the same kids. This is why some private schools limit applications. Top students can rake in acceptances and it hurts the students that are just slightly lower. Applications are read as a group for your school, so the top kids will usually get accepted. |
They have a website showing trends and they are pretty transparent on their social media. https://admission.virginia.edu/waitlist |
And why going back to demonstrated interest might help them. |
I find it funny how the rhetoric changes depending on the school. If a certain school in Atlanta went to the waitlist this early it would be confirmation that its no one's first choice. But since its WashU and Rice its something else. This is on top of WashU very high ED acceptance rate. |
PP. It has - a few kids that did a fly-in program with my DC got in off the waitlist already. |
Hi Emory mom, welcome back |
