Yep! |
If he isn't going to prioritize his high school's games, he shouldn't try out for the team. High school athletes are expected to prioritize their high school team over their private pay to plays. He's taking play time and an opportunity to play for the school from another student. |
A hypothetical situation where a starting GK bailed on his high school team for a tournament game, leading to knocking them out of the tournament. Sorry, there is NO WAY his teammates are "grateful he played when he could". What nonsense. They are pissed at him for letting their team down for his own selfish reasons and I hope the coach considers that when choosing the team next year. |

If I was a college recruiter, I would have a negative view of the character of this hypothetical player who behaved selfishly and let his team down.

College recruiters could care less about high school. The majority of kids who play high school know the deal, an MLS Next player will probably not be at every practice or game. And chances are they will get played no matter what when they are there because they are one of the better players on the team. If it's a well coached, well bonded team and the kid is a nice kid most of the time the previous poster is correct, the team is happy to have them when they can be there. My son plays ECNL and has played hs for three years, this has always been the case. I assume it's the same on a girls team for an ECNL showcase. I remember last year TJ parents were really trying to get a playoff game moved so the ECNL players could be there. This is the current state of things in high school soccer. Not the kids fault. |
| I thought MLS Next players weren't allowed to play in public schools? |
| Bring the star GK who takes your team all the way to a class 6 state championship seems a lot more impressive then paying to play on a low level MLS next AD team that then pays to play in a showcase. I mean, BFD. (HG kids not being permitted to play in HS). |
| To the extent college recruiters care at all about mls next B team players, I'm sure they want kids with a good moral code who will be good teammates at the end of the bench. |
But you aren't a college recruiter and you have 0 clue what you're talking about so there's that. |
Sounds like Class 6 state also doesn't matter (and it doesn't for soccer) |
You must be a u-little parent if you think a class 6 state championship doesn't matter. |
| It this one parent actually trying to shame the kid - if so SHAME ON YOU. Yes HS soccer is meaningless and I guess you're now just realizing that. Whatever your kid is doing in HS pales in comparison to actual high level club. |
Nope, HS soccer is crap and you know it, but maybe you don't and here is your first clue it doesn't matter. If all the top players don't play, it's irrelevant. |
| It’s hilarious that anyone thinks club players are loyal to anyone or anything beyond their own self-interest. |
Maybe? but MLS Next Division Two is not "actual high level club". |
