Best public school options within 30 minutes of dc

This is one benefit of work from home. Regular people could afford a nice house further out AND see their families (no commute or miserable commute fewer days a week). Luxuries, apparently.

Not true if you have to go over the 395 bridge.

Yeah I've been scratching my head at people's claims you can get to downtown in 30 from most of Arlington. Never been true for me during rush hour.

Take the metro dog.

I work at State, 23rd and C, behind the Lincoln Memorial. I live in Del Ray - 3 blocks from St Elmos- and I get to work in 17 minutes most mornings.

Ok but OP says K st which is a totally different commute. Plus you are stuck in your car and have to pay for parking.

"Stuck in your car"? What does that even mean? And parking is onsite and free.

There is not a person on this planet that would choose a 40 minute commute via walking, bus, and rail over of 17 minutes in a private car.

It’s not 17 minutes door to door. It just isn’t.

Lies about commutes are like lies about penis size. Just in the opposite direction.

You moron. It's 14 minutes right now. Stop trying to pretend you know anything about DC.

+1. Here is 0700 tomorrow. Spoiler aleret- it's 16 minutes.

16 mins if you click your heels in your living room and you’re at your desk on 16. You’re not accounting for non actual driving time. You are not going from your living room to your desk in 16 minutes, so it’s not a 16 minute commute. End of story.

That's not.... how commutes work.

Took me 14 minutes this morning at 7:26

Suck on it.

Leaving Arlington by 7:30 is glorious. You can be sitting at your desk with a mug of coffee by 8, which is a completely normal time to start a workday.

I love arriving early too. But who do you think makes all of the traffic after 8am?

Why does it matter?

Now I understand where all these magical 30 min commute claims are coming from!

Why does it matter?

A short commute during off-peak commuting time isn't relevant for most people. Most people don't arrive in the office by 8am, which is why there is so much traffic and commutes are long when most people are commuting. Hence the longer commutes for most people.

OP really should have said when they need to arrive in their office because that makes a huge difference.

For those outside this area, I should clarify that most people in the DMV don't arrive by 8am. Don't worry. We work later to compensate for later arrival times. Different cities, industries, etc have different cultures in this regard. IME, part of the reason for later working hours in DC is the need to work with people in central, mountain, and west coast time zones.

Utter nonsense. The entire Pentagon parking lot is full at 7am. That's 26,000 people.

Most schools in the area start at 8 so all the teachers are there well before that.

FBI, CIA, NSA, etc are all fully staffed at 7 am.

Who are you lazy f^^ks that think getting to work at 8 is 'really early'?

8 is early. 9 is normal. 7 is irritating for people who work with you during normal hours but it is what it is. The agencies are not “fully staffed” at 7.

I never understood why high school starts at 7:30am earlier than elementary. It makes more sense for elementary kids to start earlier at 7:30am so the parents can go to work. Daycare starts early, elementary starts late, then high school starts early. It makes no sense

+1.

But, remember, that 90% of the posters here are low income, uneducated elderly hicks. These people wouldn't even know how to function in a collaborative, white collar, office environ.

A short commute during off-peak commuting time isn't relevant for most people. Most people don't arrive in the office by 8am, which is why there is so much traffic and commutes are long when most people are commuting. Hence the longer commutes for most people.

OP really should have said when they need to arrive in their office because that makes a huge difference.

There’s nothing collaborative about “working” from 7-3 and not being available to work when most of your colleagues are still working.

As one PP stated "normal" working hours are industry specific.

I don't think the PP who cited the Pentagon example is from here. They don't seen to know where it is, how people commute there, or how it operates.

I never understood why high school starts at 7:30am earlier than elementary. It makes more sense for elementary kids to start earlier at 7:30am so the parents can go to work. Daycare starts early, elementary starts late, then high school starts early. It makes no sense

Which high schools start this early? Where I am, elementary school students can attend "before care" at the elementary school if their parents need to work early.

I live 7 miles from Pentagon and I worked there from 1999 to 2016. Suck on that, sweetie.
