From North Arlington, I take the Key Bridge to Whitehurst Freeway into K St, and you get to 19th & K in about 20 minutes.

Those schools are not the best

The South Arlington schools don’t have good Niche or GreatSchools ratings, but if you talk to the parents who actually send their kids there, they seem happy.

Super happy with Wakefield. Our kid is getting an excellent education and a full high school experience. And, we have multiple buses that get downtown quickly and driving is not bad. OP, you did not say how old kids are, or if you are solely in planning to have kids. Just be aware that APS can mangle school boundaries at the last minute. Also be aware that many families who are happy with elementary and high school send kids to private for middle, unless they have gotten in a lottery program, or cannot afford it, or have a kid who thrives no matter what.

Not true if you have to go over the 395 bridge.

Yeah I've been scratching my head at people's claims you can get to downtown in 30 from most of Arlington. Never been true for me during rush hour.

Take the metro dog.

Driving is almost always faster unless you live and work right one top of the metro stops. It takes time to walk/bus/drive to metro and then walk from the station to work.

+1. This is absolutely doable in under 30 mins. That's been my experience too.

My Arlington to DC commute over the 395 bridge was reliably under 30 minutes. There are many people doing the Arlington to DC commute for work (or private school) in under 30.

Really depends on your kid, to be honest. A bright motivated and ambitious kid could really excel at a large school with huge amounts of resources like ACHS. If they are middle of the road they'll likely get lost there and would benefit from the hand holding you'll get at Yorktown, Mclean, etc.

The usual FCPSs like Woodson, Fairfax, Herndon, West Springfield, etc are pretty much a non starter.

I work at State, 23rd and C, behind the Lincoln Memorial. I live in Del Ray - 3 blocks from St Elmos- and I get to work in 17 minutes most mornings.

See previous post. 395 bridge is rarely the best option.

Usually the Key, I-66 / TR, and Memorial bridges all will be better than 395 bridge. Even from S.Arlington, one could take a different bridge than 395.

I have no experience myself timing it from S Arlington during rush hour.

No metro near me dog. I can take the bus to the metro but that definitely takes longer than 30. I’ve lived all over Arlington never had a 30 minute commute

I see this is in the VA forum but I think close in MD could fit the bill if that's in play

It depends where your destination is too
