What about Tuesday Feb 24?

A split will never happen anyway due to state law, so it's a moot point.

What are the state laws regarding the vision of dividing MCPS geographically?
Anonymous
My guess: 60% on time
35% delay
5% closed

It's not specific to MoCo. It's been discussed in another thread.

Having separate school districts require that separate cities/towns/villages etc. are incorporated and then a government, taxation system, police force, zoning board, etc. are created. It is not as simple as "just divide it up and use MoCo funds to pay for it."

Yes, it is literally melting off the sidewalks and parking lots where we are. But why no plowing? If true, this is ridiculous.

I went by our school and the sidewalks are shoveled but the lots are not plowed. Very odd.

Why is MCPS not having their school parking lots plowed? There should be plenty of plows available-- it's not like last time when they were busy doing multiple runs of the streets. Are they intentionally forcing themselves into a situation where they then will say they have to be closed tomorrow, to try to further their case with the legislature to get the 180-day requirement waived?

I walked past Bethesda Elementary and it was all clear this afternoon, but I don't know about other schools. I really do think that plowing school properties isn't sufficiently prioritized in MCPS, and usually I'm very tolerant and lenient about the imperfections of our public school system. I do not quite understand WHY, for winter events that are mild and easy to clear, we cannot get county plows into school lots much faster. I know a small location in Damascus got 7 inches of snow, but the rest of MoCo got a lot less, and since I shoveled my own property, I also happen to know that this snow is extremely easy to shovel and that sunny surfaces with just an inch melted by themselves! County plows didn't have much to do to clear roadways during the night. What are they doing today?

How can you all have this same conversation every time it snows, days after day, year after year?? Bizarro.

I'm in Bethesda, too. We got between 1-2 inches. The pavement is covered. Unless you just moved to this area from New England or the Midwest, you know there's no way this could've been a normal school day. Even when I was in MCPS as a student 30+ years ago schools would've closed with this amount of snow.

The fact that everyone in this area accepts the bolded as a valid justification for closing schools is truly pathetic.
