I'm in Silver Spring and was able to get to work without much of a problem. Side streets slushy but major roads clear. I recognize that other parts of the county are worse, but in that case childcare providers in those areas would have the option to stay closed.

+1 they should really tie MCPS office closures to the County or federal government. Both of these are open today with option for unscheduled leave/telework. That's a signal it is reasonable to expect people to try to go to work if they can (but give them the option to stay home if they can't).

Larlo Sr doesn't ride the yellow cheese school bus to get to the FDA in Silver Spring. But Larlo Jr does.

Montgomery County Government is open today with liberal leave and Ride On buses are operating on a normal schedule. Today should absolutely have been Code Orange. Code Orange means schools are closed, buses do not run, and kids do not go to school. But office staff go to work like every other office in the county today.

Is it because they don't people calling the offices?

In fairness I beleive there is more elsewhere, but there was no need for "code red."

The laws of physics have changed since the end of January such that it is quite impossible to open offices or child care if a single school bus cannot navigate its route.

MCPS mantra: Let no child in MoCo go to school if there is a patch of ice on any MoCo road. Let there not be any virtual learning if one child does not have their laptop at home. Amen.

Here's the MoCo user reported totals--looks like 3-7 inches in most places. Nothing earthshattering.

The roads are fine. Main roads are clear and side roads easily passable. No reason to close tomorrow

Agreed. A closure tomorrow would be ridiculous. A 2 hour delay would be acceptable but I think they could manage to open on time tomorrow if they really wanted to.

Get ready peeps, I predict tomorrow will be the code orange we should have had today. Then delayed opening on wednesday. They need time to clear the parking lots and for everyone to finish shoveling sidewalks. Seems like no one has started in our hood yet.

It's supposed to be 37 degrees later today and 35 degress tonight and 50+ degrees on Wednesday. MCPS should be ready to open just fine on Wednesday.

Frankly, I think they should be ready to go by Tuesday, but delays on Wednesday would be ridiculous.

3-7 inches IS earth shattering in this area. Are you all new around here?? I'll be shocked if schools are open tomorrow.

I was just out cheating off my car. It's very slushy. Was not even sure I needed to do it as it could just melt in the sun.

Just passed by a middle school that has not been plowed. It may be easy to drive in, but parking can be challenging if the snow doesn’t melt and it’s not plowed.

Yes, if MCPS chooses not to plow its properties today it will be challenging to open schools tomorrow

DP agree although the temperature makes a big difference. But then I also think there’s a difference between 3 and 7.
This is so localized I don’t know what to expect tomorrow, with the size of the county.

County is open. They can request them to help to plow, if necessary and wanted.
