Yes, if MCPS chooses not to plow its properties today it will be challenging to open schools tomorrow

County is open. They can request them to help to plow, if necessary and wanted.
the county hires contractors to plow its properties. It uses its plows for the thousands of miles of roads it is responsible for .

Yes, it is literally melting off the sidewalks and parking lots where we are. But why no plowing? If true, this is ridiculous.

3-7 inches IS earth shattering in this area. Are you all new around here?? I'll be shocked if schools are open tomorrow.

Are you new around here? We've had far more than 3-7 inches in past snowstorms. MoCo is open today. I would be shocked if schools aren't open tomorrow.

My first thought was that schools will be open tomorrow, with a possible delay. But now that I see that it will only be 22 degrees at 5am, I'm hoping they're clearing parking lots and sidewalks today. If there is any slushy snow left when the sun goes down, it will be ice tomorrow.

Not new. MCPS grad with three kids in the system. I didn't say 3-7 inches is the most we've ever gotten. I'm saying that's enough to keep schools closed for more than just one day, especially if parts of the county got 7 inches. But there's no point in arguing about it. We'll all know by this afternoon.

Thinking a delay for Tuesday.

2 hr delay because anything that isn't shoveled will be frozen, MCPS will not want to risk high schoolers slipping in the predawn hours, either their cars or on foot.

If we were all made of sterner stuff, we would have opened schools today. But I'm not criticizing the decision. I'm on year 14 of being an MCPS parent, and I know how they roll...

The main issue tomorrow will be the ice from what melts tonight and refreezes overnight. Hopefully it's only a delay and not a closure. Tomorrow night and Wednesday will be warm so I don't think there's any risk of this going into Wednesday.

Some areas of county got a lot more and areas still unshoveled. Most should melt tomorrow into Wed morning. Closed tomorrow and open on time Wed.

I went by our school and the sidewalks are shoveled but the lots are not plowed. Very odd.

What school or what part of the county?

When will they announce so people can figure out transportation and child care?

School is not child care so that point is moot s/

Clearly, we can't assume the same weather-related decisions should be made for Olney, Silver Spring, Bethesda etc. Stop having the perfect be the enemy of the good and the entire school system being paralyzed for issues in one specific part.

The needed split isn’t always the same. We could do 4 zones, but there will likely be people who are still unhappy.
