Is this sporty car my husband wants to buy pretty?

I cannot believe this post! Who TF cares what people think? My husband has owned a corvette since his late 30’s and he still drives it today- wasn’t a mid- life crisis! I’m about to be 56 and I’m going to buy a Porsche 911 for MYSELF and I really don’t care what people think where they see my old ass crawling out of it. I’ve finally got the money and the kids are gone so I’m going to enjoy my life. Life is short and don’t make decisions based on what others think! 95% of the time they are too worried about what people are thinking about them anyway.

And double the cost.

A base spec new Corvette is $70,000 and they go up to $250,000 with the new hyper-car Corvette ZR1x spec.

A nice retro Bronco costs $40,000 to $100,000. See the auctions for yourself:

This for $56,000 >>>>>> new Corvette for $70,000+

Or the price of a Lambo.

Many people driving expensive cars, whether sports cars or not, are middle-aged or old, because it usually takes time to get to the point in life where one can spend a lot on a vehicle. There is no "crisis" necessarily involved. Instead, it's a reflection of their financial position at a point in time. I'd expect many much younger people would be very happy to drive a Corvette, but are not yet financially able to do so. Many older and wealthier people might also like one, but now are physically unable to manage the very low seating position.

So enjoy what you want, when you're able to, as long as the expense doesn't have a materially negative impact on your long-term financial security. For some people, a Corvette in middle age is what they want and can now afford. For others, it might be a Rolex, or a Martin D-45, or a yacht charter for $100K or more for a week. So what? What do you care if some random judgmental person sees the car and thinks "mid-life crisis? Do you select your car based on what strangers might infer from your choice, or because it's what you want?

Yep. The models that are desirable as midlife crisis fun cars are the expensive ones, and they have considerable work done.

https://www.velocityrestorations.com/for-sale/classic-ford-broncos/ is more like it.

To a sports car person, this is a beautiful car and at an exceptional price. It rivals Ferrari etc. at a MUCH lower price point assuming he gets something close to the base model.
BUT make sure that he does not hype it up with all the high powered engine and race car like options - they cost a ton extra and detract from this car's everyday comfort driving.

I like it. I do think it is hard to pull off unless you are in SoCal or South Florida. People are conservative here, so, lots of people will think he is nuts.

So who do you think buys them? All middle-aged men in the grip of some kind of existential angst? That's obviously nonsense. Anyone making that assumption is a moron.

They are bought by people who 1) can afford them, 2) like their appearance, and 3) like their performance. Also, sometimes people buy them to gain entry to owner's clubs, for social reasons.

Those who criticize choices of this type made by others are not people whose opinions should matter to anyone.

Yes, Corvettes are a great value proposition in smiles per mile.

Also,
they do not hold value
are everywhere

But he's in a free country with his own money, so do what you want, I say!

+1. Get one while you both can get in and out of it without back issues.
