Is this sporty car my husband wants to buy pretty?

American cars are junk. Corvette might be an exception, but it’s cringe.

Yeah, I think it’s a decent car now, but it still reads as the “neverfull” basic b***h of cars. I’d go for an audi or porsche. Heck, I’d get an STI and use the rest of the money for a facelift and monthlong vacation. lol

At his age, he would be better off with a high end SUV. Rivian. Maybe the Defender, Range Rover. The new Lexus GX550.

Or if he wants a sports car, then the Porsche Cayenne or a lot of guys like the Macan.

An SUV, even a Porsche, is not a sports car.

Agree. Nothing lamer than somebody paying more than 50k for an SUV.

I like vintage Porsche 911s but the thought of actually owning a convertible sports car just seems so dumb and impractical unless you have a mansion with like a 6 car garage. Or maybe it’d be neat to keep at your Delaware or Florida beach home. But in a typical UMC primary suburban neighborhood you’ll look like such a dork suddenly driving a new red Corvette.

And double the cost.

A base spec new Corvette is $70,000 and they go up to $250,000 with the new hyper-car Corvette ZR1x spec.

A nice retro Bronco costs $40,000 to $100,000. See the auctions for yourself:

The restoration and work needed on them typically pushes them into the 150k-250k range for the more desirable model years.

Bullshit. You’re describing the very tippy top of the vintage Bronco market. That is a bespoke niche market catering to multi multi millionaires.

Many nice SUVs are over $50k. That isn’t the issue. If he wants a sports car, he isn’t going to want to get an SUV instead. Even a Porsche SUV. The Porsche Cayenne is super nice. But it isn’t a sports car

It's a cute toy car for boys.

I strongly recommend renting a car like that (or a few) before buying one.

Not pretty. Midlife crisis.

That said, young people may also want that car but midlife is when they can finally sort of afford it.

The "midlife crisis" part comes in if he buys a fancy car but drives it to ugly places wearing ugly clothes on an ugly body.

This for $56,000 >>>>>> new Corvette for $70,000+

I don't really know cars but I just don't think this car is all that visually impressive. I think he'll quickly regret it or be sort of embarrassed that it screams mid-life crisis. Thoughts?

I think the red one is pretty

They don't write songs about Volvo SUVs...

I would do a test drive to see how comfortable they are to get in and out of. Truthfully I would prefer something with more class. Or at least buy one in white.

Whether the design appeals or not is an aesthetic question, and like you-know-whats, everyone has their own aesthetic tastes. Members of Corvette Clubs will express enthusiasm, members of the Ferrari Club of America will prefer their models. Porsche Club of America members all prefer the 911.

In other words, "pretty" is in the eye of the beholder. If your husband finds it appealing, why does anyone else's opinion matter whatsoever? Just like his opinion of your appearance.

But if you live in McLean, where are you even going to drive fast? You're not. It's just going to be an uncomfortable car you drive to office (although many wouldn't because it's too flashy) or an uncomfortable car you use to run errands in on the weekends

I live in GF and drive a very fast car. The performance potential is not something used often, but is rewarding when deployed (safely). Sometimes it's better to have it and not need it, than the other way around.

You can't get a luxury SUV for under $50k.
