I just sold the handbags I once kept for financial security

+1
Thanks OP for coming back. I'm not sure if it's helpful each time or more confusing but we'll get through this together.
Do you work now? Do you get child payments? Are you on your DH's health insurance for your cancer treatments?

Are you self-medicating in some way?

Are your kids in college nearby or working nearby?

Have not worked for decades. I got turned down for Real ID a few years ago because I didn’t have a 1099 or W-2 to prove my social security number.

No child support my kids are all adults

Yes I am on my DH’s health insurance

Self-medicating: 100% yes indeed

4 kids 4 working but only one still in school and it doesn’t cost us anything

OK, so that bank account is marital property. And “your” car is marital property.

We’re still waiting for insurance to process everything, supposedly because I took such good care of the car our daughter crashed that it’s still worth 50% of value. I think ex-DH is counting on that check to pay for any new car for her.

I’m still thinking of not having any car ever again. Except one time I thought about those cool little European vehicles that only hold 2 passengers.

This might be my time to do that, I’m kind of into the idea

There is no correlation between the maintenance and upkeep of a vehicle and how it fares value-wise after a crash.

But welcome back OP! How you doin

Tell us how pro women hide money to prepare for a divorce they know will be ugly.

No I had a 2016 Chevy Silverado with around 20K miles

If you look it up online it’s like $4K

But the insurance company is supposedly sending a check for 23K

Our last town excise tax based on the transfer of title before she crashed it was exactly $25 dollars

Because they don’t know mileage
Anonymous
We just got the new bill because we had just transferred title in November. She got into the rollover accident the night before Thanksgiving.

Who still says "I am old money WASP and make over 800k a year as a woman"

This is hilarious

I mostly wake up and decide what bathrobe to wear after feeding my cats and dogs and chickens and goats and then decide what streaming show to watch. Is it warm? Is it cold? Sometimes I make bread to feed to the turkeys who wander my farm.

All my children are already millionaires. I don't have to do anything lol

I'll tell you what I told the Jewelry OP, who did the same thing. You would have been so much better off buying tech stocks 20 years ago at a different bank. You're not factoring in inflation here in your pricing.

Real money in modern society is not in clothes or jewels. We're not living in huts and wearing our family's entire fortune on our person.

I actually got excited by fat envelopes full of cash because I don't have a car to get to ATMs or banks anymore. I miss cash.

I was like CASH!! But then it's just like a check and now I have to uber to the bank tomorrow to deposit it.

I miss cash in terms of being able to give tips, mostly.

I would have been able to do better to buy tech stocks 20 years ago but I think we did that. Like I have a pile of 100 statements piling up all the time because we have investment accounts for all of our kids.

I just sold some stuff today that was in my closet and I wasn't paying attention to because you're right, you are very correct, stuff I had is just not relevant today.

I guess you can get mad at me for agreeing with you but ... I'm agreeing with you

Ya'll ... this ^^ is not real. We are just getting messed with.

Yeah, I don't see how an ex-husband could keep you from getting a car.

He can't keep me from getting a car, but I prefer to get stuff out of community funds and not the ones I have diverted over time into my name. I could, but so far I'm holding off.

I've been trying to balance using ubers against the upkeep and insurance for a new vehicle in my name. So far I'm like OK I might need $500 in ubers in the next few months or maybe even $1k but it's not a whole car.

I'm waiting to see what he does for my other 2 adult kids.

He's got a 50K planned luxury vacation for himself and his girlfriend January 2026 and he just put it all on my card. It's dumb, it's all documented that I'm not going to be there. He's asking my son to host it because he's the only bilingual one in his country.

I honestly think they just keep thinking I'll die

My son is an added user on my credit card.

Ex asked me to increase his limit to "unlimited" and I put it up to 30K and then said F them.

I told him if my credit card works in (other country) then yours does, too. If his vacation costs more than that then OK he can figure it out.

But it's why he's not so into buying me a car when he has to get the other 2 adult kids into vehicles. Because if he's got that much money, then that's part of his job. They all have educations, they all work, none of them are addicts or have been through the legal system, it's the least he owes them.

OP

basically I'm not buying a new car in my name when my kids don't have even used cars

My kid overseas doesn't need a car

My kid who lives in NYC doesn't need a car

My two kids who live here do need cars. They both work. One could absolutely buy a new car on a financial plan but he should not have to if his dad is taking his girlfriend on a 30k cruise

I will die on this hill

So only $10k each? I thought those were worth so much more.

I don't know what's 10K each

We pass on 10K to 3/4 kids per month

One doesn't need anything at all
Anonymous
OH Sorry

This thread is birkins, my threads got confused with the allowance we give our kids 10K per month

I never bought birkins for more than 10K except for a couple of them that were maybe more like 12K

Several I bought for far less because it was a long time ago. My favorite I bought for 6K, it's a black barenia and takes up light and color like a saddle

I just kind of decided it was time to cash out of the rest. I'm just not that important anymore
