I thought his autism helped him not constantly be personally annoyed by her abrasiveness and miss a lot of her sarcasm directed towards him.

But my twin is on the spectrum in what seems like much the same way her husband seemed to be, and I could see his autism ultimately being annoying to her. The combination works when they miss a lot of your frustration with them, and let it go without the negative reactions someone else would have, but it doesn’t work when you start to be constantly frustrated by their lack of reaction as well as needing your constant prompting and direction.

Obviously, not that I would know, but based on how she created the character based on her husband in that one movie, I picture her saying to him, “this isn’t working for me anymore” and his just saying, “OK” … you’re not going to work out a complicated adult relationship when one person is only capable of functioning on a certain emotional level (or, perhaps, a lack of more than one).

A lot of the stories she told about him back when they started dating, got married, had a baby etc about his autism were definitely told in a, "how quirky and cute!" Way but I immediately thought how frustrating and old that would get over time as a neurotypical person. After 15 years my non autistic husband can annoy the crap out of me, if I fell and broke my ankle and he had zero reaction but to stand there or decided to show up at a holiday party barefoot I think I would lose it. You can be very understanding of the underlying reason why those things are happening but they would still be frustrating when you're years into a relationship and also dealing with your own stuff.

I sincerely pray for her daily and have for a long time. And that’s not meant to be condescending at all. She just seems to be seeking peace in every direction most unlikely to provide it. We all do that to a certain extent but she seems to be chasing an illusion of perfection. Her quest to be “thin and beautiful” (and therefor achieve what she has built up as the ultimate happiness that comes with it) has been honest and raw, but she has also been so public about this desire that I genuinely worry for her mental health once she finally sees that achieving that standard of “physical perfection” actually doesn’t provide the healing she is seeking. She’s already a very funny and talented person—but a lot of what people relate to with her is the gift she has of being raw and real in her IMperfection. We get it—she’s not conventionally the prom queen, but even with a few extra pounds and the lesser-defined jawline, she’s still more physically attractive than most of us average women out here. I just feel bad for her that she is so desperate to stand for acceptance and lift up badass women for being badass women—but she can’t seem to apply the same standards of success to herself before she is able to truly love herself for who she is.

I like her and I always have. The divorce is a sad thing. What no one is addressing is the fact that they are parents and their son is now about 6/ 7 yrs old.

It may well be that the autism that affects both father and son has created a gulf in terms of parenting styles. It may be that she needs him gone in order to focus on her son fully and not feel like she is mommy to both of them.

She is worth an estimated $45million
Her desire to be thin and attractive is linked to her disordered eating / drinking and self-loathing. Fixing the outside won't fix the inside.

Of course he’s great, I don’t think she would’ve married him. We forget that they’ve been together close to a decade so yes, of course there was some appeal.

I watched her documentary when she was having a difficult pregnancy and having to do a stand-up tour. He definitely seemed great, very sweet, etc and I could tell why they were together, but a lot of celebrity couples split around the decade mark.

She did this whole to stand up tour called emergency contact. If you watch it, it’s all about how you start out really intense in a romantic relationship, but then over time you become a family and how do you F your family?

She’s certainly not the first person to ever broach that topic but I think they just became good friends and roommates and a lot of people don’t understand that that’s a big part of marriage and can’t deal with that.

While the future remains to be seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up uncomfortably thin.

If she’d ever been able to shed 20lbs on her own, she would have done it already. And I think her appearance has always weighed heavily on her, otherwise she wouldn’t have rushed so headlong into the “I make fun of myself before other people can make fun of me” schtick.

I enjoy her comedy and also think she’s actually quite attractive, but she really kind of goes overboard making fun of her own looks. Some throwaway joke about her abnormally small mouth even made it into the script for the Murders in the Building show.

The movie she did where she gets hit on the head and suddenly looks in the mirror and thinks she’s a 10 really showed a lot of her internalized insecurity.

OK I guess I didn’t like it when she got angry one time and referred to herself as the most popular female comedian of all time … I was like, really. Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, so many SNL girls

I could see him living a quiet life with someone more introverted than Amy who appreciates his earnest style and love of the land and cooking and most importantly who will love his son, but respect Amy's role as mother. I hope he and Amy maintain a good friendship. I wish her success in her career and a series of fun boyfriends. I don't think she truly wants another spouse, but he strikes me as a guy who should find his life partner.
