Putting the kibosh on the fake nail talk?

Anonymous
My 2 teens did the Ulta at-home versions this fall for Homecoming and I thought they looked fine (wasn't willing to pay for sets at the salon for all of the reasons already mentioned). They tried to keep it up for a couple of weeks afterwards and eventually gave up because of the hassle and embarrassment of having one fall off at school. Considering the amount of time they had been talking about trying them, it was faster for them just to do it and quickly move on once they figure out how much of a pain they were.

Then again I don’t wear any fake nails. I’ll use regular nail polish on rare occasion. I just don’t notice or care about other people’s nails. And the long fake ones on other women just weird me out. As a physician/surgeon… nails like that are a breeding ground for gross germs… just telling it like it is.

Lol. You can get a box of semi cured gels off amazon for 8-9 if you watch for a sale. That gets you two manicures that don’t take much time to apply. Some of you guys I guess just hate anything nail related.

It’s just a waste of time.

I like my nails to look nice and a pretty color or design adds a bit of joy to my life. 30 minutes every week and a half is worth it to me.

Stick ons! Ohora stick ons. They have a little curing lamp, they look great and they’re easy to remove. Semi gel, or whatever.

I said no to fake nails at the start of middle school and luckily my DD hasn’t brought it up since.

The daughter can go ahead and buy that! I don't understand when it became parents responsibility to purchase makeup, fancy skincare products, balayage and nails for their teen daughters. Those were the things we all blew our babysitting money on.

Yes agreed but maybe OP needs to steer her in the right direction. She may not know of all the other options.

Yep. I don’t battle over this stuff. DD knows she can pay for it with her own money. She’s experimented with different nail approaches, almost all of which I think look ridiculous and are a waste of money. But I keep my mouth shut. It’s her money she’s made with her own work. She gets tired of the upkeep eventually and moves on.
