Which among WASP would you choose to ED and why?

It’s not about Amherst or Pomona being as good or better (which I believe), it’s solely about the name with this class of folks

You’re delusional. The majority of people have no idea that Williams isn’t a community college somewhere in New England. If you’re in it for the name, you go somewhere else.

THIS
A typical recruited-athlete family is a very brag conscious. Some have been talking about their kids playing for Harvard since 4th grade. If you’re in the community, this should sound familiar.

Not at all in DVM world. I see far more parents bragging about mid-major D1 schools because their kids "went D1". Families crowing about Richmond, Towson, or Fairfield for women's lax when half of the NESCAC would eat them alive.

Agree that Pomona attracts few prestige seeking students because it's not that well known. But surprised that there is a big difference between Williams and Amherst. I always thought those were the two top names for LACs and the schools are similar.

There is no difference between any of the top 10 or so SLACs, none. They are all great schools and kids should choose based on fit. This whole WASP argument is just ongoing DCUM nonsense to give insecure parents something to argue about, same as HYPSM nonsense.

Your vote doesn't count and neither does the majority. You are one of the people who just doesn't get it. The people who matter know and those who don't know really don't matter.

There is no difference between HYPSM and other national unis? And WAsP is imaginary. Er, OK. Hope you are not advising applicants.

Keep telling yourself that to justify dishing out $320K+ for a school no one has even heard of. Can you get any more generic than "Williams"? Maybe "Jones"? You're better off going to Penn State. People have heard of that.

No difference between HYPSM and the rest of the T20. And, no difference between WASP and the other half dozen SLACs with identical student profiles.

And, no difference between WASP between the T20 and the top SLACs except that you will receive a superior undergraduate education at the SLACs.

If you believe otherwise you are part of the problem.

Sure thing….Might want to ask yourself why the top SLACs have higher acceptance rates to med school, law schools, top grad programs, IB, MBB, etc. than virtually any schools outside of HYPSM.

Williams has best fa outside HYP. Most people would pay less for Williams than for a school like haverford. It’s super wealthy and outside trump’s target

Lmao most competitive LAC with similar student profile to both Williams and Amherst. What a bunch of BS.

It’s true though, the kids that go to Pomona really don’t care about prestige.

I'm not doubting that these colleges produce graduates who go on to attend prestigious grad schools and do okay in life. That's not my point. My point is that if you're a prestige whore and are interested in impressing people, don't go to Williams. Maybe Amherst is better because people might think it's UMass. Bowdoin? 99% of people can't even pronounce it. The Ivies, Duke, Standford, MIT--people know you're smart. Williams? People nod their head but have no idea that it's a decent school (which it most certainly is).

True, which is why they chose to go to a school with a 5-7% acceptance rate that requires top stats. Just for the giggles.

People who matter know you are smart. It is kind of a good way of sorting people.

Ahhh, the tired "people who matter" argument. Sorry you think that 99% of the people who live in this country don't matter.
