Unless it's a very short trip, I always check bags whether it's free or not. I'm a terrible packer and bring too many clothes and I don't like lugging a suitcase through the airport.

If airlines didn’t lose luggage frequently, carry ons would be less of an issue.

This is why flying private is so superior. It's just DH, our children and a couple staff. Boarding is a non issue.
