Why don’t they board planes back to front?

Also, you have to really crack down on people bringing oversized carryons and what not or all the overhead space will be taken before the first several rows of economy get to board.

Fee for carryon, free checked bags. Easy.

I never understood why it isn't charged this way: free checked bags, $ for carryons.

If we. Heck a bag the airline has to pay people to load and unload them. If we carry on, we are doing that work.

+1000

If I pay for my bag to be under the plane, I should have a spot for my feet, not have to keep my backpack to make room for your free carry-on.

In my 30+ years of flying , I’ve never once failed to find room for my carry on.

How about airlines enforce carry on bag dimensions? Wouldn’t that ensure there was enough room for all?

Our airlines are controlled by credit card companies!

We never put anyone on the moon which is why airline travel hasn’t improved.

I have flown where back rows were zones first.

What some passengers sitting in the back rows and boarding first seemed to tend to leave their carry on luggage in rows ahead of where they sit. So when those who board towards the front, will find their bins full and may need to go back to find bin space and this would slow deplaning.

Because guess what, if you board last now, the people who got on the plane first...use all the overhead space. This is a not enough space issue, I don't get why boarding from the rear would make it worse.

Last boarding group means one does not fly very often on that airline, does not have their credit card, and is less important to revenue for the airline. And, yes, these days airlines are all about revenue.

Boarding from the rear would mean the customers who give the airline more revenue are hurt most. That in turn would hurt airline revenue, so it is not what airlines do. They are businesses trying to make a profit, not a government service.

Some of you need to understand how airline financials work. For most airlines their loyalty programs are worth more than the airline itself.

I have status through credit cards with every airline I fly (for checked baggage alone, higher boarding group is just a bonus) and I still hate the way planes board and deplane. Waiting for everyone to load and load their oversized carryons is maddening.

They should board back to front but only windows (AND members of your purchasing party to the aisles)
So row 60DEF could be seated (because they are together). And row 60 A could be seated.

Back to front.

Then back again. Middle seats and purchasing party. All the way to front.

Then aisle seats back to front, filling in all remaining seats.

I also like this. Because people will buy window seats as a premium to get on first.
The aisle is nice too but you lose some seating priority.

First to board at the back loses the advantage of leaving first.

But if you know you have a short connection, you buy toward the front (but you have the disadvantage of boarding last).

It’s sort of even-Steven on the boarding and disembarking. Pick what you like best. Aisle+last board. Or window+first board.

**note if you don’t show at the gate and you it’s not perfect, that’s fine, but showing up late will be annoying to you and everyone else.

So they can sit in an enclosed space with strangers for longer?
