Why don’t they board planes back to front?

Delta just made groups 5-8 gate check their bags, many bins were completely empty. A reddit search indicated it is to keep boarding and deplaning quick

You would have us believe that there's no practical value in sitting a dozen or two rows closer to the front of a plane, and that it's all about superiority complexes?

10 rows closer is 12 minutes faster out the door. I travel for work and do not have those 12 extra minutes.

Also, you have to really crack down on people bringing oversized carryons and what not or all the overhead space will be taken before the first several rows of economy get to board.

Fee for carryon, free checked bags. Easy.

+1000

If I pay for my bag to be under the plane, I should have a spot for my feet, not have to keep my backpack to make room for your free carry-on.

the airlines cannot do this. A single mover would be killed as it is not what people want. If all the airlinjes did it -- one would break free and have an advantage.

Force everyone to check their carryon unless you are economy plus or higher and most aircraft have the door so that when you walk in to the left is business class and to the right is economy so business boards first.

They would have to regulate carry and charge more than they do now.

I love it when airports do this. I’ve only experienced it on islands and in South America. Generally places with smaller airports where they board with stairs rather than a jet bridge. It is so much faster. Works for getting off the plane as well.

Ryan Air does it nearly every fight in Eurooe.

Same for flights within Australia.
It was very efficient.

So row 60DEF could be seated (because they are together). And row 60 A could be seated.

Back to front.

Then back again. Middle seats and purchasing party. All the way to front.

Then aisle seats back to front, filling in all remaining seats.

Ha ha - trying to explain this at the boarding gate....

You are out of your mind.

That would take even more work to regulate this. Who is ensuring this process pray tell?! It would take a saint and more time to enforce lol

And by the way - if I paid for Econ plus you bet your ass I get to board soon. I guarantee if you are paying what I'm paying for that seat you would feel the same!

And they have completely different carry on standards, and they enforce their carry on rules.

United starts checking bags way too early too, but if you find a sympathetic flight attendant they will usually let you bring your bag on. It's all in how you ask. Infuriating that they make you do this though when there is plenty of room.

If they told me at check it I wouldn't care as much. It's so annoying to have to wheel or carry it through the airport then check it.

I ship my suitcase to my travel destination and have it held there. I only travel with a medium Longchamp pilage with a change of clothing, a phone charger and a book.

Frontier does this in Denver now. Not sure how well that's going to go in January.

I'd rather spend an extra 15 minutes on the plane waiting for people to get their carryon down from the bins than spend a hour at baggage claims waiting for a luggage that may end up being lost.

Airplane time is different than real time. When you get down to it, people are getting off planes pretty quickly and it's only adding an extra 10 minutes to deplane with lots of carryon. The real time suck are shuttles to the gates and waiting for luggage at baggage claims.
