Absolutely attack colleges and the ridiculous govt student loans that perpetuate 5-10% per annum rise in college “costs” and the rise in keeping crappy Tier 3&4 colleges even in operation. Such a racket. But finally being right sized now. With no large trade school systems in place. |
Most of the country kept working. Or were in Vietnam. Hippies stayed in academia or communes or took govt jobs. |
No. They just fondle their smartphones 8 hours a day. Parenting is easy with screens! A la Adolescence. And don’t take them away and suffer their temper tantrums. Let the kids rule. They know best, esp teens. They need their screen time to stay calm. |
The above is why private and Catholic schools are 40% oversubscribed. Public schools are largely in the $hitter between overeating, crap off the shelf bought curricula, zero discipline, uninvolved parents, “can’t teach ahead”, too much tech & Chromebooks in the classroom, no textbooks only Google Classroom pairs, Low expectations (pass everyone, retake everything), etc. |
Yes education and parents failed them. We now ask for what high school they went to and their transcript / grades. We want a track record of hard work and success and accountability. Ones who top out with only pre algebra - and fakey grades - don’t get an interview. They simple cannot think through anything, nor learn. |
Are you allowed to fire workers in places like France? |
I have family in trades and this was also an issue with Millenials (eg, math skills). They couldn’t handle fractions. Neighbor in finance complained of the same thing 20 years ago. The problem is worse now |
I’ve never worked for an organization that didn’t have at least a 90 day probationary period. Am I missing something? |
The problem is colleges have become country clubs. The dorms are so much nicer than the prison-like cell I had. The dining halls are very nice. It’s like luxury creep. |
And that's what parents and students demand. I don't know that I could have afforded to attend luxury college today, it was hard enough to attend bare bones college in the 80s. |
Most American universities have become political indoctrination camps where the kids get a four year break from family life — all expenses paid. What’s not to like? Any kind of preparation for real life is no longer a priority. That degree isn’t as valuable as it was for us. |
Great points! |
When you can increase the price 8%+++ a year and have govt student loans cover it as nauseum that’s exactly what you get. The k-8 over testing, terrible reading & writing & math curricula, and zero discipline are another serious problem. |
