Georgia vs Ohio State: Senior Son is Torn

I’m think some people overestimate the weather in Athens. Yes, it’s warmer than Ohio, but it’s not like it is Miami. You aren’t at the pool in March. It was one of DC’s top choices and we tracked it throughout the winter.

Visited OSU last week and the kids looked like they were happy. Super friendly too- maybe it's the Midwest thing.

Yeah, I didn’t understand the reference to GA being “happier.” I’ve been to OSU many times because my kid goes here. The kids are quite involved and happy. I agree with the “friendly” statement, as well.

I think the idea is that it’s a different vibe when you’re by the pool in March at UGA and it’s still snowing in Ohio. Sure, you can have fun on an Alaskan cruise but that’s different from fun on a cruise to the Caribbean.

What if you prefer snowball fights to swimming?

I was there in January and walked by about 300-400 students having an impromptu snowball fight. Also saw sledding on trays.

And Columbus has Short North right next to the campus. I can’t imagine a better shopping/restaurant district than that.

I just don’t get the “fun”

Can you show us a ranking of college towns that has Columbus ahead of Athens? Is Columbus even considered a college town?

Why do you care so much?

I love Columbus. I’ve been to Athens and I still prefer Columbus. This doesn’t impact you at all. It doesn’t impact me that you prefer Athens.

Just be happy Athens exists for you and I’ll be happy Columbus exists for me.

The OP’s son can make his own decision. He doesn’t need us making cuts at each other. What purpose does that even serve?

I also find it hilarious when I’ve read how convenient it is to be near the ocean.

Many people do. You don't because it doesn't support your opinion on which is the "better" school.

So you would agree UGA is better than Wake Forest and William and Mary?

I don't, but some people just take USNWR ranking as a given.
