Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s viral White House photo: serendipitous or The NY Times ending her career in politics?

Guess you're going to have to stop supporting NBC News too.

A 'disaster': Gretchen Whitmer's meeting with Trump anger fellow Democrats
The Michigan governor tried to play nice with Trump. Instead, there’s a sense in the party that she got played

“Just a f---ing disaster,” said a Democratic operative who admires Whitmer and, like others interviewed for this article, was granted anonymity to share candid thoughts about her day. “It feels like it removes some of the momentum she had as a politically savvy swing-state Dem.”

A national Democratic strategist said, “It is a massive indictment on Whitmer and her team’s judgment."

There are literally thousands of pictures and videos of Trump looking stupid or saying stupid things, yet he has been elected twice.

If this "ends" her career, she didn't have much going on to begin with.

The Trump and Biden clown shows are perfectly fine in the eyes of their idiot supporters but oh dear God don't let a woman have an untimely photo taken of her.

I think it ends her career because she fumbled a golden opportunity to seize the ambush in front of the WH press pool and go rogue, be forceful, and make herself the favorite in 2028. Instead she totally crumbled. The optics were childish, weak and dishonorable as she kowtowed to Trump. This is an astute take in the left-leaning Detroit Metro Times:

“Whitmer could have rhetorically assaulted the president, jumped in front of the cameras and eviscerated his plainly anti-American executive orders. Had Whitmer recognized the situation for what it was, she could have captured the attention of the nation and catapulted to the forefront of a crowded field of potential presidential candidates. But she stood silent, out of deference — indeed, out of loyalty — to Donald Trump.”Stern continued, “It’s time for Democratic leaders to summon their fighting spirit and embrace unwavering opposition to Trump’s agenda — not as a matter of partisan strategy, but as a moral imperative to protect what remains of our constitutional republic.” – political commentator Evan Stern

It ended her career because she had fumbled an golden opportunity to seize the set up in front of the WH press pool and go rogue, be forceful, and make herself the favorite in 2028. “She should have punched him in the face,” political commentator Evan Stern wrote in a Substack post. “Or, short of that, Whitmer could have rhetorically assaulted the president, jumped in front of the cameras and eviscerated his plainly anti-American executive orders. Had Whitmer recognized the situation for what it was, she could have captured the attention of the nation and catapulted to the forefront of a crowded field of potential presidential candidates. She's a loss cause and blew it.

It’s a great picture and the picture alone sets her up for a presidential run.

The picture doesn’t end her career and anyone who believes so is crazy. Trump will do a thousand dumb things between now and the end of the week. No one will even remember this photo next week.

Meanwhile MJT is insulting her constituents at a town hall and removing others when they boo her. Yet another snowflake who can’t take the heat but always is being loud.

This is BS take. She was told she had a private meeting with the president, and when she was ushered into the Oval Office she saw that they blindsided her. Even if she’d stormed out, the news media would be breathless about how petty and immature she was instead of writing that the president screwed her over because he’s that petty.

Her only mistake was believing that anything good could have come from a visit to the WH.

That the Dems are eating their own rn is gross and appalling, especially since those calling the shots are the ones who are horrible for the party and should be called out.

Trump and Biden could fall down a flight of stairs, make a racist comment, forget their children's names all in a day's work and their pea-brained supporters would shrug it off.

Whitmer has an embarrassing photo taken. Her career is over!

Sucks being a female sometimes.

I don't understand this apparently coordinates attack by center-left people to manufacture outrage over non-event. I expect from the Dijon mustard tan suit Republicans, but I don't understand why the Democrats are doing it to one of their own.

This is like the "Dean Scream" again.

What's the real story? Are the Clintons afraid she'll defeat one of their anointed successors in a primary?

This is flirting with Q-anon crazy. The reality is there is no there there. If Dems want to win in 2028, we need a fearless, quick on his or her feet, killer. Whitmer is just not that. Whitmer and her team got crushed in November 2024 and when duped by Trump in April 2025 she exposes herself as some frazzled freshman sorority girl.
