Globally, the only schools that really register are Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Berkeley and NYU for some reason.

Not true. I’m Italian, worked in Germany, UK, Dubai and Tokyo over 25 years. Now in the US.

Sure the ones you mention everyone knows PLUS:

Wharton, Yale, Princeton, Michigan, UCLA, Cornell.

I dont care what anybody else here says. Outside of these 11 schools, nobody else knows much about any of the other schools….it is that simple. These command respect. Everything else is (oh…let me look at it as I dont know much about it….)

Agree. People globally absolutely know Cornell.
And Michigan and UCLA.

I just googled and AI tells me that WashU has the highest percentage of international students (over 30%) compared with Cornell (26%), Michigan (13.9%) and UCLA (a mere 11%) of its student body. So, which school is it that is not known internationally? Data does not lie!

Internationals look at QS World University and Times Higher Education, where Cornell does better than WashU, Brown, and Dartmouth. Cornell is also the biggest.

I wonder how many international students fly into Dulles & try to take an Uber to the WU campus.

Wash U has little to no prestige.

Top prestige is Brown, followed by Dartmouth, then Cornell.

Would you pick McGill or Wash U or St Andrews?

those equaiting washu to jhu or chicago are dumb

it has a piss poor engineering school compared to jhu (which itself is has better engineering than most ivies). Also, complete unknown nationally relative to Hopkins. Same with Chicago.

Who the hell has heard of Washu? Certainly not many outside of the midwest.

Thread is a great reminder of the perils of anonymous posting. One poster with an axe to grind against washu, JHU who’s posting over and over. Our kid is thriving at WashU. Excellent school. Don’t care if trolls feel otherwise.
Ps there are so many great schools. Don’t ask dcum scum what to do.

Minimal … Wash u similar to < T15 schools like Brown/ Dartmouth etc

My DD chose a WASP over WashU, Dartmouth, and Penn. But she would have chosen WashU over the two Ivies because of fit and program. In terms of the magic fairy dust of prestige, Dartmouth and Penn have more brand awareness as Ivies. But I don't think there's a meaningful difference in the quality of the student bodies, education, resources, or outcomes. FWIW, I personally quite liked Dartmouth's "big liberal arts college in the mountains" vibe though..

It's well known in the Midwest and South and somewhat on the West Coast. I've never had it bashed in those environments the way it is on DCUM. I've had many people say "Great school!" if the topic comes up.

I think of WashU as in the same ballpark as the ivies, hopkins etc. But also I'm one of those who sort of shrugs like who cares. It's a super duper good school, I wouldn't care AT ALL about prestige relative to other super duper good schools. Like really, whatever.
