Sure, tech execs are bullish on their own product. People also thought radio would be dead a few years after TV came along. |
It totally is! Lay offs have hit most of my private sector friends. Unemployment is going to skyrocket. |
Humans are the only species that seek to make themself irrelevant. |
Another day, another hysterical post. There's no "next", private sector has been struggling since the rates went up. There have been headcount freezes at some companies since the PANDEMIC. |
+1 I work at a ‘big 4’ that did a mass layoff last year. Guess what - the vast majority of people found jobs quickly. The senior people it took longer, obviously, but there are jobs to be had for quality people. |
Video did kill the radio star, though. |
Dopey thread. Private sector is ALWAYS on watch and at risk of layoffs. The public sector needs to grow up. |
If you work in the private sector, Leon Musk is going to fire all of you next. Just wait. |
I work in tech and never recovered from outsourcing to Indian H1Bs and offshore.
There are hundreds of applicants for every position. |
Make America more unemployed. Way to kill the economy! |
This is backwards thinking. Just because the private sector used to have job security and doesn't anymore, doesn't mean that public sector should be like that too. The public sector leads in labor protections and some private sector follows. Not the other way around. |
Professional conservatives have always known to keep a low profile because of vindictiveness like this, esp. in DC area. Professional liberals have not so they are very easy to spot and eliminate. Political extremism is generally correlated with poor job performance vs. educated moderates and that’s especially true for leftists in the private sector since they are often ideologically opposed to their company’s efforts to maximize profit. So fire away, and I’m sure others will do the same, and the chips will fall where they may. Private sector employment is at will and people get fired all the time. I’ve survived waves and waves of layoffs at this point. Most everyone finds a new job pretty easily since that’s how it rolls, GFC excepted. I’m well aware my company wants to pay me as little as they can and is happy to fire me the moment the cost-benefit analysis shifts. I work here because it rationally maximizes my income per hours worked taking and is otherwise tolerable from a culture and quality of work standpoint. |
Some have survived waves of layoffs … until they start to hit their 40s ans 50s. Also, some top companies cut the bottom performers even if they are among the best performers I. The world. |
Private sector jobs have never been safe. Nothing new. |
+1 Republicans are such perverts. Stop obsessing over kids' genitalia. |
