FYI I just drove by our elementary school (it's on my regular route to/from the grocery store.). There was someone throwing salt/ice melt down on the sidewalk leading into the building. I thought it was a little early to be pre-treating.

Wintry mix is forecast for tomorrow. Salt/ice may be optimistic if rain washes it away - on the other hand, we haven't used any yet so might as well put some down, it might help.

You are legitimately winter Scrooge. Re-examine your life and how you got to the point where you are immune to the joy of snow, or at least to the joy it brings children. Sorry for you.
I’d rather it a week or two later.

Why not both??

Do you really want to have school in very late June?

Huh? There are 13 built in snow days.

“Built in” happened when they started counting the ten minutes in getting off busses and walking to class in the morning and the ten minutes in the afternoon walking to the bus as “instructional time”. There are actually fewer days and fewer hours in the calendar since they made that change. Your kids are getting less education as a result. Every snow day just reduces it further.

VA started counting recess time too, which helps boost the hours.

Weather apps are mostly pointless this far out. That’s why we have actual human forecasters like CWG.

We don't need it because schools need to be open. If you want to discuss the joys of winter storms, do it on the Off Topic forum. Doing it here just means you want schools closed. Lazy.

I prefer schools to be open and my kids to be bleeding in a ditch where their bus slid off the road. I am a totally sane parent who does not hate his children and I should be taken very seriously.

CWG is currently forecasting 0-8". I like CWG for their detailed articles and explanations but they aren't good forecasters.

Add in the overnight forecasted accumulation.

That’s harsh.

CWG seems to be favoring the 3-6” scenario and seems to be taking the “little or no snow” scenario off the table at this point https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025/01/02/dc-region-snow-storm-forecast-ice-winter-weather/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=wp_weather

From my own previous experiences with FCPS, the 3” end would close us Monday, possibly Tuesday but at least a 2 hour delay, and possibly a 2 hour delay Wednesday. 6” would definitely be 2 full days of closures, possibly a closure Wednesday but definitely a 2 hour delay, and 2 hour delay Thursday as well. 8” would likely be 3 full days of closures plus 2 hour delays Thurs/Fri. Plan accordingly!

It’s a possibility that a bus can’t make it to a school and then creating a panic when the automated calls start…”your kid is absent…”
