What do you hope Trump does to the disabled?

no of course they don't. Garbage in garbage out

Trump’s own nephew told him he should just abandon his disabled son to die.

What other proof do you need?

— we are incredibly underfunded and desperately need more people. And there are tight quotas for every job I’ve seen. And you get put on a PIP and fired for routinely missing them. No one is napping instead of teleworking. Or whatever.

— we lose 99 employees to another agency for every 1 we gain. In my job, it’s often the VA. We have the lowest job satisfaction rate of any large agency in the federal government and a lot of jobs are graded lower for the same work than someplace like the VA. So people leave for the grade bump. That plus the understaffing plus the quotas means more people leave.

— it takes about 2 years for a new employee to get up to speed. It’s a very complex program. But we don’t give them that time to learn off quota. In my area, half quit the first year.

— we pay the state DDS to make initial and recon determinations. How long you wait depends on your state and how efficiently they run their DDS. Unlike the hearing + levels run by Feds with tight quotas. Person who said 10 months for initial determination seems correct, state dependent. “Years” is not. If states get too far behind (approaching a year) federal employees get detailed to the states to help them get caught up. In fact, this is in place now in some states (ahhmmm Florida, the biggest offender).

— I’m not worried about losing SSI or SSDI. In the end, there is a bipartisan need. I am worried about: SSI being decreased (amount you get is state dependent, but it’s about $300-400 a month— no one is getting rich here), the SSDI trust fund running out of money and an across the board cut, and that we will continue to lose people who know what they are doing because working for a social welfare program under Trump is chaotic and soul sucking, and I expect our budget to get slashed even more, which makes the backlog even worse.

We still have the last of the Boomers, and they have a lot of institutional knowledge. And we are about to lose them. And it is certainly perceived that moving the the VA is better under Trump.

If you are going to worry, at least worry about the right things: staffing, minor tweaks to SSI and the SSDI trust fund going under and not being bailed out.

Thank you, informed PP.

This is how a Trump presidency + a Republican controlled congress is going to hard disabled people (and many others). Chaos, neglect, and lack of funding. Loss of institutional knowledge. Procedural delays. Lack of oversight, lack of ability to appeal.

People living in better functioning states may not be as harmed as those living in dysfunctional states.

I post often on the Eldercare forum, since I have a severely disabled spouse who requires a home health aide for 40 hours per week, non of which is covered by Medicare or our insurance. That's about $50,000+ annually we have to pay out of pocket. His entire pension.

I was slightly, mildly optimistic that with a Harris presidency, maybe we would be able to get a *teensy* bit of help paying for an aide for him. But with a Trump presidency? I'm expecting worse Medicare, and zero financial assistance.

nope

He believes in Eugenics, so if you have disabled people in your family, you should probably be concerned.

Musk believes in eugenics as well.

Deport American citizens? For shame.

Steve Miller is looking into denaturalizing American citizens, so realistically, you should expect to see it.

I don't understand your $300 to $400 comment. SSI is in the $900 range depending on if your state gives a small bonus monthly.

Majority of these people and their families voted for Trump, I guess FAFO. We tried to do our best for the underprivileged but this country decided they needed an autocrat so here we are.

What do you want to happen to them?

Think the blind, those without limbs, those who can no longer walk or stand, those with intellectual disabilities, the severely autistic.

What will happen to those millions of people with no income after Elon Musk and his efficiency crew cancels anything not money generating?

He told his nephew Fred that his disabled son would be better off dead. If this is how he feels about family, I doubt he cares about people he doesn't know.

The cherry on top of that is if a pregnant woman learns her baby will have a severe disability, he doesn’t support her right to terminate the pregnancy.

So he wants to force families to birth potentially severely disabled children, but then won’t give a damn about said children once they’re born.

If he thinks they’d be better off dead (which is a horrible sentiment toward a human being who is living and here now) is he suggesting we post birth abort them?

It’s clear he is just motivated by hatred of women, disabled people, minorities, LGBTQ people, etc.

the irony is that low income rural pops have the larger population of disabled people bc dont believe in abortion and bc have less access to prenatal healthcare

but they are fafo-ing so.

Not necessarily, but I think they will try some of them, especially funding cuts. MAGA does not like federally protected categories of people and using government resources to protect them or support them financially. Why would the disabled be any different?

1. Project 2025 plans to eliminate the rights of and protections for disabled students

2. Project 2025 would enact major cuts to key health coverage programs and services

3. Project 2025 would create even more barriers to employment for disabled workers

4. Project 2025 would restrict disability and other social benefits

5. Project 2025 would reduce the ability to enforce the ADA

I am the OP. Thank for this cite.

It's terrifying, what they have planned for the disabled. Absolutely disgusting.

from the document (and this is just a few things -- there's a whole manifesto of how to wreck the disabled):

--Project 2025 intends to eliminate earmarked funding and thus strip disabled people of access to valued educational institutions,10 possibly including the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the American Printing House for the Blind, and Gallaudet University. These institutions provide disabled students with education and support when they can’t receive an equitable education in mainstream public schools.

--Most egregiously, Project 2025 would set time limits on Medicaid coverage or arbitrary lifetime caps on benefits, which could put millions of Americans at risk of losing coverage.25 Project 2025 would also attempt to introduce failed policies such as work requirements for Medicaid eligibility.

---Project 2025 would fully repeal the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).27 If this occurs, up to 18.5 million Medicare Part D enrollees could face increased out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs.28 People on Medicare would lose the financial security provided by the IRA’s annual and monthly out-of-pocket caps, and Medicare would once again be banned from negotiating lower prices directly with drug companies.2

In re caps, do they think folks with chronic mental illnesses or developmental disabilities are simply going to be cured as they near the end of their eligibility?

They think everyone is a lazy cheater, and the person with a 65 IQ is faking.

Trump and his supporters are evil.
