One of the thinks the Republicans have done is to refuse to fund Social Security staff. So there are major, major backlogs.

It takes about 10 months to get a first decision, and can take years for appeals.

This is by design, so people die trying to get help or just live on the extreme edge of poverty. Many people become homeless while waiting for help. R's want it to look disorganized, so they can say how bad government is.

My DS is disabled so I see this going on all around me.

10 months for a first decision is incredibly fast. That’s what we call “fast tracked” for severe cases like the blind or terminal illnesses. First decisions often take years
